Crossfire 2

As far as I'm concerned passing on RG3, Manziel, and Winston should be enough to end Mack's career... Considering what he brought in instead.
U can whiff once, maybe twice, in a long stretch of time, but not as many times in recent years as mack has. I am in full agreement with you, should be the end. He loves to protect redshirts, in Swoopes case, he wont be a 4 or 5 yr term anyway, probably leave school early, mack should have played him.

QB conundrum next season boys. Jerrod Heard could very well start for this team as a true freshman next year. Mack will be gone and the new coach will be forced to deal with the Swoopes/Overstreet/Heard situation. On the flip side, it could be worse - all these guys make my eyes light up. Too bad Mack got ZERO reps in at the position for any of them.

Let's face it - David Ash WILL NOT be coming back to play another snap of collegiate football. This is a serious injury and it will affect his life moving forward. It sucks for him beyond words.

OH yeah, and you can bet your ass the new coach will be looking at JUCO and quarterbacks at other D-1 schools to potentially make a move to Austin. Not saying it happens, but it is definitely a strong possibility.

Hahaha We'll have to agree to disagree on the current quality of Bama... They managed to schedule just two teams that have the ability to consistently win. They aren't the best team in the country. There aren't many top ten teams that wouldn't be 6-0 if they played Bamas schedule. Hahaha...
Never called them the best in the country...I just don't see the same downward trend you do. Like I said, we'll know more once they've played a team that challenges them and I don't think they'll really be challenged until 11/9 against LSU (who stunk it up this week).

Word on the street is Heard could easily turn into a John Chiles. What is our backup plan if he isnt ready?

You're right, the only challenge they have left of the two they scheduled is LSU... I think LSU gets up and beats them. But we'll just have to wait and see. A LSU win means I don't have to hear about Bama for at least a while. I think losing Mccarron, next year, is gonna have a huge effect. IMO.

"Must be able to develop QBs" should be one of the top 5 requirements listed on the new coach's job description.

No knock against Chiles but if Jerrod Heard does not play qb at Texas then:

1. Texas really has gone mad.

2. I will be doing this:

Heard or Swoopes will be the starting QB next season. My money is on Swoopes and Heard may redshirt?

Winston was never coming here.

Complain about Luck, RGIII and JFF all you want, but this Winston thing is similar to how Robert Nkemdiche was complaining about how UT didn't recruit him, just wanted attention and a free trip. Yes we should have brought him in and wine and dined him, but he was never going to end up here.

Bless you for reiterating it. I'm surprised the haters haven't brought up Drew Brees either. Mack took a pass on him, blah blah blah. Brees wanted to go the A&M like his dad and Grandfather. A&M didn't even consider the "legacy recruitment" of him....

Wasn't the Brees recruitment under Mackovic's watch? Also, didn't Brees have a serious injury that hurt his recruitment from a lot of schools?

Yes, but Brees showed interest in North Carolina when Mack was head coach and NC said no thanks. He did have a knee injury his junior year at Westlake I believe.

Brees tore up his knee his junior year. As he wasnt exactly a "dual threat" QB anyway, it shouldnt have been a damper. Hed have had two years to recover.

Let's say we get Saban for 5-7 years (which is fine as hell with me) and he is successful in changing the culture round here. I would guess that we would definitely want his input on his replacement so we never end in this situation ever again. With that said whoever is after him would have to have brass balls because the pressure would be tremendous.

There are reports on twitter about how Saban doesn't want to leave Bama bc he wants to pass Bryant's 6 titles. Yeah, most of us would take him for 5 years and bring us back to 2004-2009. AD better be able to find a good replacement himself, I don't think Saban has a mentality to care about what happens after he is gone. Next coach will have a lot of pressure but the CFB we are about to enter will put that kind of pressure on any future Texas HC. Also, the possibility of the Big12 GOR expiring during that coaches tenure will add to that pressure bc it would be nice to be at our A game.

Exactly...Remember it well

Im assuming he wants seven titles at Bama? Good lord.

If that is the case, may the next man at Texas return the favor for 2009 and piss all over that dream.

If Saban says no thanks (and that seems likely once he uses Texas to leverage more money from Bammer), what is the next logical move? I'd love to see a defensive minded coach come in and hire a big-time OC. Tomlin is very intriguing. He has won Super Bowls and would bring discipline. How would a Tomlin/Chad Morris combo be and hire the DeSoto coach as the RBs coach? I don't know the DeSoto coach, but his halftime speech on Fox SW last week made me want to go play in the second half.
