No, he runs it like a pro team, but then again he has how many titles in comparison to us?

Patterson recruits tough and finds the athletes in the smallest corners of Texas. He grabs the 2.5 & 3 star guys that bigger schools don't touch and turns them into beasts. I respect his abilities.....
I have watched Patterson's antics on the sideline. I like passion but the guy looks insane during games. Plus I have seen these guys who did more with less and the assumption is it will carry out with top tier recruits? I don't think that is true, and I don't think some the top elite players will take his abuse. There is a real chance the team will just tune him out?

All of course IMO..

Reiterating what I heard tonight about Patterson and what McPhaul posted - Patterson was a little ticked that his name is not being mentioned in conjunction with the Texas job. He's a grinder but not someone Texas has on their radar right now.

He's a damn good coach. I just don't think he is a match for Texas? Sounds like the decision makers agree with me. They should listen more often.

I'm with y'all, Patterson is a good coach but there are quite a few I want over him.

Hopefully he can keep Tcu competitive and win some OOC games.

As much as I want NC's I do not want them at the risk of shitting on kids. This is just a game and what should e equal to winning is producing young men that are prepared to be productive responsible adults. At least IMO, there are more important things than simply winning titles. Running 18-22 kids like an NFL team may produce wins but it doesn't help develop them as productive members of society.

Interesting point, and perhaps one which becomes more important in a year or two. Right now, this program needs a top to bottom cleansing.

Agreed wholeheartedly. He might be a great schemer, but i've heard things about his character and his treatment of kids. We are all about winning, but you are right, a coach is a father figure, and MUST help develop the kids into young men. It is one of Mack's greatest traits, is his graduation rate, and development of the kids. I've heard stories of Patterson questioning injuries... I know football is a man's sport, but there is a limit.

How much parenting should a head coach do? I reallize its part of the job, but you guys have to recognize many 18 year olds paths are determined long before they even become prospects.

Look at Von Miller for example, great player, crap human being since grade school. No one blames Mike Sherman for Miller being a dick, and the blame shouldnt fall on him, no more than Id blame Saban for Rolando McClain being a tool.

There is a difference between being a leader and trying to mold young men, and then blatant ass kissing like Mack does..at least until you speak out.

DISCUSSION: We talked last night about the recruiting classes and what a coaching change would mean. Depending on which coach is brought in, we WILL lose some guys. Is it THAT bad to lose 1/4-1/2 of the recruiting class?

Coaching change will and has to happen.. The recruiting classes will work themselves out. Depending on what coach comes in, could mean alot more committments

Well this is exactly the description for Mack Brown, so essentially, you don't want a coaching change at all.

I understand completely where you are coming from. And i am a firm believer that you should never be too comfortable in whatever job you are in. Being comfortable ensures complacency. Mack made fatal errors years ago, when he dumped the spread. He became full of himself and he looked in the mirror imagining himself as an innovator. He couldn't recruit to his needs. Snowball effect. In a sense, the true Mack has come out in his last years. The actor, the preacher, the texas daddy image is gone. Hes knows he fighting for his image, and hes stepping all over people, past alums, coaches, friends to save his ass. He is tarnishing his legacy further. Ruining it.

Mack is not dumb, he knew complacency would catch up to him, so he tried to change everything. He failed, but in all of our emotion to oust, we must remember the 10 good years... Good things happened. Texas football struggled for many years. I'll never forget that 66-3 feeling. He helped put us back on the map.... Yet his time has come and gone.

Saban anyone?

I enjoy stirring the pot.

Saban. Why not? Everyone else who gets attached to us via rumor leads a team out to crap the bed the next week.

The idea that you can't have both is a ridiculous notion... A great coach and a great role model/leader.

Well I think you're taking examples from both far right and far left ends of the spectrum. There needs to be a middle ground and yes there does need to be some heavy fathering considering some of the most broken homes coaches go to get kids. Some kids will need more than others and some kids will be shitheads no matter what but I think we can all agree that at 18 you're still very impressionable and susceptible to all sorts of missteps on your path.

I, for one, am just glad that Mack took the advice of this anonymous dipshit and didn't bring FSUs QB Winston in. No way our program needs what appears to be a good kid who is an absolute baller doing amazing things as a freshman. Nah, we're good with Ash and McCoy.

The Winston kid is freaking electric. Cannot imagine what he could do in burnt orange.... Then again it would be nice to see what Tyrone Swoopes can do. Unfortunately we may never see him play either.

We can dream at least...

As far as I'm concerned passing on RG3, Manziel, and Winston should be enough to end Mack's career... Considering what he brought in instead.
