Just some FYI type info as I know many of you have abandoned OB . . . .and are tired of smoke from other sites.   This from Grey Gordon's post. . . .

- Kendall Sheffield will be in Tallahassee for this weekend's FSU-Notre Dame game.

- Sosa Jamabo wrapped up an official visit to UCLA last weekend and is headed to Oregon soon.  Jamabo enjoyed the Southern California atmosphere more than he expected
and currently has the Bruins very high on his list. Also keep an eye on
the Bruins with another four-star Texas recruit, wide receiver Carlos Strickland, who has recently moved UCLA up his list.

- Malik Jefferson is also lining up an official visit to Oregon.

- As mentioned last week, four-star offensive lineman Josh Wariboko
is now giving Ohio State a long look. The one-time Oklahoma commit will
get an even closer look as he has scheduled an official visit to
Columbus for this coming weekend. However, the Buckeyes still have a
great deal of room to make up to catch up with UCLA, who is still seen
as the leader, and Oklahoma, who has pulled themselves back into the
picture. But watch out for the Buckeyes here as Wariboko talks to 2014
OSU signee Demetrius Knox out of Texas quite often.

- Late Tuesday night Rivals100 RB Derrius Guice revealed on Twitter that he will take all five official visits before coming to a final decision.  Could Texas get an official visit from Guice?

Then there's the section about Texas and the Florida recruits.

Texas obviously needs an upgrade in talent and it seems as though Charlie Strong
is going back to his Florida roots hard to accomplish this. The
Longhorns handed out numerous offers in Florida on Tuesday, including
four-star running back Tim Irvin, four-star defensive backs Shawn Burgess-Becker and DaVante Davis, and three-star defensive backs Sheldrick Redwine, Ronnie Hoggins and Carlton Davis, who is committed to Ohio State.
While Texas has made a small push into Florida this recruiting season
already, I'm actually surprised it took this long for them to hit the
state harder. Now that it's mid-October and with the Longhorns having
another subpar year, might it be too late to grab the attention of the
Florida recruits?

A friend of mine, who is somewhat connected to UT as far as recruiting, has said that Malik Jefferson will play football for Texas.  But be advised - this guy has never won at Las Vegas betting the boards.

If Malik commits to UT what do you think the domino effect is. Also hasn't Bama had the #1 class last three years? Last year did not play for championship and probably won't be in the playoffs this year. Seems like there is more to winning than star rankings.

There won't be a domino effect if Malik waits until January. He'll like Oregon, but he'll hate the way they play defense.

Malik is ours to lose, and he has to be impressed with our defense as well as the opportunity to start from day one. Really would be shocked if we can't pull it off.

I would love it if we could get back in on Guice. He looks like an instant impact player.

About the only OOS school with any shot is OU. . . . .

And I don't mean the ducks. . . .Kid wants to play close to home. . .he's said it from day 1. . . .

What Mother wouldn't?  She wants her son to have an opportunity to play in the NFL and achieve his dreams, but she also wants him to be around role models.  I can't think of a better one.

If Malik comes to UT he will pull at least one big defensive recruit with him... Can't say who but I just have that feeling. It will be like Murray committing to Aggie.

I've said all along that Malik will commit to Texas. Still believe the same.

Throthefade if you could pick one player for Malik to bring with him who would it be. I used to want Daylon Mack but now I am not sure about him.

Here is what is setting up for UT, as far as recruiting:

DEFENSE

What savvy defensive recruit has not noticed UT's defense?  What defensive recruit, that has talked to Strong AND Bedford, has not come away highly impressed?

Keep this in mind - MJ's mom likes Strong and MJ likes Bedford.

OFFENSE

With the play of Swoopes getting better and better and Heard and Gentry waiting in the wings, what offensive recruit doesn't understand how that would translate into a future winning offensive program?  Particularly future WR's?

For the most part, recruits see what is happening at Texas.  They see the development of our OL and Swoopes and the elite play of our defense.  They see these subtle improvements and the not so subtle visits from the NFL about ethics.

Parents see this and parents LOVE this.  Wouldn't you, if you were the parent of a recruit?  Who would you rather your son play for - Stoops, Sumlin or Strong?  Who would you like to see develop your son as a football player, but, most importantly, as a man?  As a parent, which is more impressive - a swagcopter or a degree from the University of Texas?  Which coach is more likely to make your son study, attend classes and pursue academic excellence?

This choice is easy, isn't it?

For those of you that say it doesn't matter, the kids are impressed by the swag and will go that direction, I say BS.  Did you give up control of your 17 or 18 year old and just say "Do whatever you want, son"?  Did your sons say "Your advice sucks, mom and dad I don't care what you want"?

When Feb. rolls around, you will pleased with our recruiting class - I promise you.  There will be more flipping to the good guys than you see at a pancake house.

It's going to be glorious.

While I agree with your general premise, it's also important to understand that some kids and parents will opt for the lure of swag. It's a different mindset (and typically a different family element), but there are plenty of prospects, Moms and families that won't think twice about some of the benefits you listed.

IMO, those are the ones we dont want anyway. Those kids will spend more time in CFS suspended list than on the field if they come here. Like you say, plenty of prospects. Let's grab the good ones and Let's Ride!

While I get what you all are saying, I would just like to say that not every kid that likes the "swag: factor going on in sheepland is somehow a person that does not care about going to class and earning a degree. I don't care for that generalization.

This. Many would identify swag with flashy "new uniforms", "new logos" and etc. If that's the case, I'm a fan of football "swag". With that said, I'm a massive fan of the way CFS is running things in Texas and would hold this model up as the model that all NCAA schools should follow. Simply liking swag doesn't mean these are small-minded recruits.

Of course.  There will always be a faction, where the parent(s) are no more mature than their kids, that are all into swag and helicopters.

It's been my experience, however, whereby the parents actually served as parents, that most of their kids were pretty darned even keeled and responsible.  And don't sell all kids that come from the "hood" short either.  Their mothers want better for them than they have and they will respect a coach like Strong and trust him to take care of their boy.

The odds of a boy that is a gangster, druggie or felon getting a schollie are low anyway.  At least at UT.

Sorry for the late reply had a very busy week. Larry Pryor or Kylar Murray would be my guess.
