Took my son and his buddy to a movie tonight at Regal Cinema here in Vancouver. I haven't been to a movie in quite some time.

3 tix: $33.00. Ok, so far so good. $11/ticket is about what I expected.

3 medium drinks, (44 oz size-a bit BIG for Medium, but that's cool,) and one Medium popcorn, (MONSTER sized bucket!) $24.75. Yep, Popcorn & drinks almost as much as the movie.

Almost $60 to go to a movie.

When did movie night get so damn expensive?

Why didn't you sneak in some of those brisket leftovers? ha ha

Yea, went to Hobbit 2 the other night and experienced the same thing.

What'd you watch? The wife and I hit the matinee ($8 matinee...what the heck?!) showing of Saving Mr. Banks. Good movie.

Is why I started a BluRay library sometime ago. Along with a host of standard format DVDs.

We save both the $$ and the hassle of the often inconsiderate crowds here in NW Austin.

Typical sale price for the BluRay is from $19 to $22 or so. $24 tops. Not over 2 tickets, and it's usually a keeper.

Though the picture is not big screen, it is a lot sharper and great sound track of my A/V system.

I can re-live special films, scenes and moments.

First run movies are ruined by concessions... the theater pays heavily in rentals so has to make it up in horrible prices to the customer.

Certain movies (the special effects heavy flicks) just have to be experienced on the big screen.

There's none of that brisket left SHA.

Took the boys to see Anchorman. Waiting on it to start. Pretty sure it ain't gonna be worth $60. At least they could offer a complimentary flight of high end bourbon and rye.

I think movie theaters make most of their profit on their concessions.

Only poors go to Regal. Cinetopia is where its at.

My wife told me Frozen (I assume that's the movie you mean) is the best Disney movie she's ever seen.

...when you grew up, and became a parent...

I hope you left the Roomba running while you are away. You know...just to so you can come home to a clean casa...

Wow movies have gotten pricey! Unless the reviews are absolutely spectacular I usually just wait-- or catch an early matinee. But I'm also a cheapskate. :)

Don't the majority of theaters make their profits off of concessions, and not on ticket sales? I thought I read that somewhere, but my knowledge of cinema economics is rather lacking.
