Chris Simms

I'll get blasted for this but in my opinion most Texas fans treated Simms badly. All he wanted to do was play football yet Texas fans hated him 1) cause he was a yankee 2) his dad was famous 3) he "took" Applehwhite's job 4) I'm sure there are more reasons.

From people I know who have an ear to the program, most the players liked Simms better than Major. I have no proof, just what I heard.

If anyone is to blame for the Applewhite-Simms debate, it would be Brown and the coaching staff since they make the line-up decisions.

I was at the Big XII championship game when we lost to Colorado. Did Simms have a bad game? Yes he did but to boo him like our "fans" did was classless. No excuses.

I never blamed either for who got the start and who didn't. Bottom line and as I stated before, that was Brown's fault.

Lastly, can this debate please die? They are both gone and chances are neither will ever coach here.

count me among the guys that were not on the Cris Simms bandwagon. I still feel that Major would have won more games. I was excited when Simms came to Texas, but I thought Mack went full on "milktoast" when he came here. I thought he played Simms because he was afraid not to rather than thinking he could win. Was Simms more talented than Major?....absolutely. But if you wanted to win, Applewhite was a better bet. The closest parrallel I can think of was when DKR finally threw in the towel and Moved Bradley to Safety and let James Street play QB. Nobody had more talent than Bradley...nobody...but Texas did not start winning with the wishbone until Street took the reins.

Even still, nobody should have booed Simms however, but if you heard me booing from my couch it was at Mack "milktoast" Brown.

OK I blast thee.............just kidding. :)

Good lord.  . . .some of you belong on TexAgs the way you shit on Horns.

Having said that, really stupid thing for Simms to say.  . .. even if it was true . ..

My main reason for posting the article is because I get sick and tired of these stories popping up time and again, just so he can complain about something regarding his time at UT.

Personally, I took issue with his terrible performances in big games:

TX v. OU ('01): 198 yds., 0 TD, 4 INT

TX v. CU ('01): 130 yds., 0 TD, 3 INT (Yes, he got knocked out of the game, but he did more than enough damage to that point. But hey, at least he felt good enough to laugh on the sidelines while we were losing)

TX v. OU ('02): 156 yds., 0 TD, 3 INT

Finally, let's not forget that awesomely timed INT he threw against Tech in 2002 to essentially end the game.

He's always gone out of his way to cast UT in a negative light. Sorry if you feel that reacting negatively towards someone that does that to our University equates to those morons at TexasAgs.

He was the #1 QB recruit in the nation however he doesn't live up to the hype so people blast him. I played sports and I wasn't perfect. I hit a game winner at the buzzer to win a basketball game but I also struck out to end a game with the tying run on 3rd base and the go ahead on 2nd. I drop passes and Heaven forbid I even fumbled the ball but I also had a game winning sack when the opponent (who was favored to beat us and were the district champs) had 4th & goal.

Yes he lost some big games however he also beat KSU at their house, helped led a comeback vs LSU in the Cotton Bowl and was 3-1 against aggy. We could say the same about Major and yes, even Vince lost some games at Texas and had to have Chance Mock bail his arse out to beat Tech one night at DKR.

Personally for the way most Texas fans treated Simms (death threats, keyed his car, the booing, who knows what else), he deserves to talk crap about his time at Texas. However most articles I've read, including this one, he has stated he enjoyed most of his time here.

He didn't dump on Texas, just Major. He also praised Major in that he would be a successful coach. I've got no problem with him calling out Major. Not sure if he was asked or just offered up the info. Major was a gamer, but also a prick from what I've heard. Of course my sources are monarch and Hamm, so I could have been misled 😜. I enjoyed watching both play, other than the ou blowouts!

Good lord . . .that is some of the dumbest shit I've read . . . . .

So tired of the childish false narratives cultist try to spread.

He made a stupid comment. .  .doesn't change teh fact it was his opinion and in talking to more players and coaches than likely you have, he was right.   Doesn't change the fact he shouldn't have said it but. . .  .

If you bother reading the thread (and yes, I am comparing you to a mindless ag).  . .VERY FEW of the comments are about what simms said and most about the butt hurt over a kid who's sin was playing his heart out for us.

If you aren't smart enough to see that.  . ..and there is zero evidence you have the IQ. . . .head over to texags and suck up to the sheep humpers. . . . .

So let me see if we can understand what passes for your football "IQ".  . .

The CU game in Austin is ignored from 2001?

The record setting game vs aggie (Aggie's last really good d) is ignored

The game vs LSU is ignored.  ..all that team would do in 12 months is win the national title

The only win Mack had against Bill Snyder is ignored.

Games against Neb ignored

You are one of the idiots who used to define "big games" as our losses.

Remind me who started vs OU in the 2 blow outs?    Oh yeah Major and Vince.  . .Vince who lead TEXAS to it's ONLY shutout of the Mack era???    So by your standard Vince and Major must suck too.

Paging Texags.  . .paging TexAgs.  . .one of your 'geniuses' escaped. . .please take him back.

Wow echeese, such a sensitive little cupcake. One, I wasn't referencing just this article. He's said negative things in the past. Next, I know he had good games. However, he had his worst games against OU and cratered against CU when we had a chance to go to the BCS game. On this level, a player is judged by how he performs when the lights are the brightest. It might not be fair, but it's the truth.

I wouldn't go as low to compare a fellow Longhorn on this board too an Aggie and throw personal insults at them, but apparently you're a special breed. Considering how sensitive you are, maybe you should go hang out on their boards. Way to keep it classy. Grow up.

Congrats on having a reasonable conversation without resorting to insults. As for your previous comment about your own personal experiences in sports, I get where you're coming from. As I said to the "class act" above, I guess it comes down to how a player performs when the lights are brightest. Again, it's admittedly quasi-unfair, but it's the truth. Vince had his bad games, but dominated the 2 Rose Bowls when the lights were the brightest.
