CBS: 5 Big 12 schools (including ou) explored B10 move in 2010

IMO, the only things the Big12 needs for its brand and conference to survive long-term is for both UT and OU to be winning and nationally relevant. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening for both short-term. To SHA's point in the "10 Causes of the Fall of the Big12" thread, Stoops shot himself in the foot trying to take OU national.

A&M, Baylor, and TCU have all eaten into OU's Texas recruiting pipeline (and ours to a smaller extent). I don't see that changing, either, short-term. Briles and Patterson are committed to maintaining their programs. Apparently, recruits have finally noticed that Norman and OK sucks!  :P

Maybe the Big12 doesn't survive the next realignment wave. If not, I won't be losing any sleep. UT will find a nice home regardless. The only downside is we may have to check our egos when we're no longer the ringleader of the Pac, B1G, or SEC. Until our leadership asserts itself again, anyway.  ;)
Ironically, that's what made last year's recruiting season such a success for a Texas. Can you imagine our 2015 class without the Florida kids? It's good but not great. I can't blame OU for trying to go National. Their mistake was in thinking they actually had that kind of pull.

There is some truth to what you say. The BIG XII could die and Texas would still be fine. I just know that if that were to happen, Texas would be "the reason" for a lot of people. There would be plenty a bitter fandom out there.

True, but IMO that was more a function of CFS and staff's relationships with FL high school coaches. They appear to be gaining traction in TX and I expect we'll be back atop the ladder soon. Historically - and you can bust me if I'm wrong - OU has only been good when they've recruited TX well.

Everybody looked out for their own selfish best interests in realignment; CU, NU, MU, and aggie. Nobody left the Big12 with the expectation of taking a pay cut. They just assumed that the big cable-bundling monopolies would allow them to cash in for the foreseeable future. aggie also wanted a bigger stadium than UT and the well-traveled SEC fan bases to help fill it.

People can point fingers at UT, but I'd argue that most would be envious and bitter anyway. It's documented that none of the defectors ever voted for sharing Big12 TV revenues equally. UT helped make it happen for league contracts on T1 and T2 inventory after the last shift. We have a vested interest in keeping the Big12 together until 2024, minimum.

We'll see who makes out best in the coming years. I'll bet on UT. \m/

Disgruntled Huskers still reminiscing about the 16-team B1G that didn't come to fruition while talking about UT's internal problems with Patter$on. Oh...and UT isn't the "self-proclaimed kingpin of the Big12". It's the proverbial straw that stirs the drink. UT successfully lobbied to disallow partial-qualifiers and move the office to Irving. Remember?  ;)

Screw corn-aggie!

Look fellow, I have been striving to be logical in many areas of my life.  Granted, at a game, UT football will not be one of them.  I bleed burnt orange, pure and simple; however, I will leave you with the following statement:

If the LHN had been born in July 2005, not one of our games would have been shown exclusively on LHN.  Pre and postgame possibly, but there is no way that ABC or ESPN or FOX would have given up that revenue - not one.  At least, I don't think so.

Hook 'em!
