Ironically, that's what made last year's recruiting season such a success for a Texas. Can you imagine our 2015 class without the Florida kids? It's good but not great. I can't blame OU for trying to go National. Their mistake was in thinking they actually had that kind of pull.IMO, the only things the Big12 needs for its brand and conference to survive long-term is for both UT and OU to be winning and nationally relevant. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening for both short-term. To SHA's point in the "10 Causes of the Fall of the Big12" thread, Stoops shot himself in the foot trying to take OU national.
A&M, Baylor, and TCU have all eaten into OU's Texas recruiting pipeline (and ours to a smaller extent). I don't see that changing, either, short-term. Briles and Patterson are committed to maintaining their programs. Apparently, recruits have finally noticed that Norman and OK sucks!![]()
Maybe the Big12 doesn't survive the next realignment wave. If not, I won't be losing any sleep. UT will find a nice home regardless. The only downside is we may have to check our egos when we're no longer the ringleader of the Pac, B1G, or SEC. Until our leadership asserts itself again, anyway.![]()
There is some truth to what you say. The BIG XII could die and Texas would still be fine. I just know that if that were to happen, Texas would be "the reason" for a lot of people. There would be plenty a bitter fandom out there.
