Cal Film Review

It's hard to tell for sure but it looks like Davis might have hooked him with his right arm just as they pass the 20 yard line.
These are the type of bad calls that eat me up, it was nothing and I get sick of seeing these type of calls.

He had his hand on his hip, keeping contact with the receiver.

Here's every deep shot that Texas took. Notice that, with better throws, any one of them could have (and, in previous games, many would have) been completed. Also note that there's only one in the second half.

The explanation I saw for why Texas stopped taking them was that Cal was in off coverage, but as you can see, they were in off coverage on five of the seven that Texas threw, and the receivers still got over the top. The only double move I remember — the Swoopes (under)throw — was wide open.

My thinking is they stopped taking them because they wanted to reduce unnecessary hits on Buechele and decided at halftime that they could win by running the ball (maybe why we saw Swoopes so often). The lack of aggressiveness bothered me, though.

Speaking of hits on Buechele, my sense is that in the first two games, when the run game started to stall, Sterlin got Buechele involved in the run game. They weren't able (or willing) to do that against Cal. I don't think it really affected the outcome, but it's interesting and kind of ironic because Buechele still took the hardest hits of the season in this game.

buechele's int was underthrown.  if he leads burt down the field, that's a td.
