The point on a brisket is typically the fattiest cut. Pitmasters often trim the point (and select edges) off a brisket and return those pieces to the smoker.
Are burnt ends tough, chewy worthless cuts of meat, or are they heavenly bites of smoky goodness? It depends on who you ask...
Rather than discard the trimmings and fat, we choose to savor all the information that flows through the site. So, sit down and help yourself to some burnt ends.

We reported this weekend that Davion Curtis is on the verge of a scholarship offer or perhaps has already received one. We spoke to a source close to Curtis who confirmed this news for us last week but asked us to hold off on reporting anything because Davion wanted to focus on his playoff matchup. It seems that playoff focus is continuing on as Davion isn’t really talking much while his Temple team pursues a championship. We were told we would know more as soon as Davion is finished with his season, but for now the speedy receiver is still committed to Georgia. Texas sits in a great place for this one though as they offer proximity to home and fulfillment of Curtis' dream school.

When we first started reporting on the potential for Curtis to flip, we told you that he is tight with 2016 Beaumont Central running back Devwah Whaley and could have a hand in bringing the state’s top runner to Austin should he commit. At the time we also told you there were some interesting signs to watch for with Whaley, who seemed to have Texas running far behind. Today a report surfaced that Whaley has scheduled an official to Austin which was definitely something we were on the lookout for. If Texas can get Curtis on board they will have two advocates in the ear of Whaley including freshman safety PJ Locke who played with Whaley at Central. While some will say the relationship between Curtis and Whaley isn’t that close, the things we continue to hear are very positive behind the scenes for Texas.

A quick note on Southlake (TX) cornerback Obi Eboh. The Longhorns' lone cornerback commit told us he might take another official visit but he’s locked into his commitment to Texas. He also told us he set up an official to Austin for December 12th, like many other commits and targets, and is very excited. Obi is extremely academic-oriented so Texas will have a shot to wow him with a great presentation from the business school. He has visited Oklahoma a few times unofficially so it is a situation to keep an eye on, but we don’t think it’s a big deal as of right now.

Texas received a commitment on Saturday from Lewisville (TX) offensive lineman Denzel Okafor. The 'Horns stayed in the fight with the big lineman even when it looked like he was leaning towards TCU. We spoke with Okafor prior to his commitment when we were alerted that it was happening to find out what pushed Texas over the finish line. “I like how young of team they are. They are going to bounce back eventually,†said Okafor. With offensive linemen still a big need for the Longhorns, Okafor told us he thinks he can play early on in Austin. “I really do! They have three senior linemen graduating so this is my opportunity.†Okafor joins Tope Imade in this class as a player of Nigerian heritage. The Longhorns have a history of Nigerian players within their program including the Acho’s and Alex Okafor. Though Denzel is of no relation to Alex, he is aware of that history. “In a way it’s going to feel good to be the second Okafor at Texas.†We connected once again with Denzel after the commitment of Marcus DE Andrew Fitzgerald. Lewisville and Marcus are neighboring schools and rivals, so Okafor has seen Fitzgerald in action. “It’s exciting, he’s a really great athlete,†Okafor told us when asked to assess Fitzgerald as a player. The Longhorns continue to chase Jean Delance and Patrick Hudson, and could be on their way to building another strong offensive line class.
