The point on a brisket is typically the fattiest cut. Pitmasters often trim the point (and select edges) off a brisket and return those pieces to the smoker.
Are burnt ends tough, chewy worthless cuts of meat, or are they heavenly bites of smoky goodness? It depends on who you ask...
Rather than discard the trimmings and fat, we choose to savor all the information that flows through the site. So, sit down and help yourself to some burnt ends.

Obi Eboh’s recent commitment to Charlie Strong's Longhorns has brought about more than just a talented player saying yes to the Longhorns.
Texas suddenly has inroads at the storied Southlake Carroll program. After nabbing Eboh it appears Texas could be in line to secure his extremely versatile teammate Lil’Jordan Humphrey. The class of 2016 athlete lines up all over the offense for the Dragons, and Texas has heavily recruited Humphrey since the early spring.
Humphrey will tag along with Eboh this weekend as both players visit The 40 Acres watch the Longhorns and Golden Bears play. According to a source, Humphrey is very high on Cal and was close to committing when visiting Berkeley over the summer. While the Golden Bears still represent a significant threat to Texas, we were told Humphrey is leaning more and more toward staying at home and playing in Austin. If Texas can play well against Cal this week and demonstrate to Humphrey they have a tailored plan on how he will be used in the offense, it’s safe to say his commitment could be secured very soon.
The third member of the SLC3 (Southlake Carroll Three), safety Robert Barnes, committed to Oklahoma last week. We were told by the aforementioned source that if Texas were to get Humphrey on top of Eboh, that Barnes would still be on the table in the long run. These developments are worth keeping a close eye on.

As is usually the case, there are several players that weren't able to make the trip down to Austin this weekend even though they intended to.
- 2017 Crosby WR Mannie Netherly had a family emergency and wasn’t able to be there. He told us he definitely plans on making it to Austin for a game this season
- 2017 Manvel Safety Derrick Tucker also had something come up but tells us he still is high on Texas and will make it to campus
- 2016 Manor OLB Erick Fowler and Killeen Shoemaker DE Rhassan Thornton also were unable to attend

Week 4 of TXHSFB coverage on HornSports brings a rather uneventful slate of games. With a large number of the state’s programs on bye weeks we had slim pickings, but recruiting analyst Mike Roach will once again be covering Arlington Bowie and Texas commit Tope Imade. Bowie had their bye last week and will take on Colleyville Heritage led by 2017 QB Cam Roane. Roane competed at the Texas Elite Passing Camp this year and gained some interest from the Texas staff before they offered Sam Ehlinger.
Imade and Bowie are a young team trying to grow up fast under head coach Danny DeArmen. After a hard fought loss to Cedar Hill, the Bowie staff went to work getting the team ready for Heritage. Imade has been vocal about his displeasure with losing and is doing all he can to ensure they win. The advantage of repeated viewings of one player like Imade is being able to see growth in his skillset from week to week.

2016 San Jose (CA) Victory Christian receiver Collin Johnson is one of the top commits in the Texas class. The massive receiver committed to the Longhorns more than a year ago when his older brother Kirk did the same. Johnson, who will be the third in his family to suit up in a Texas jersey on Saturdays, is one of the strongest commitments in the class. He made his way to Austin over the weekend to take in the Rice game, where he spent time with fellow commits Shane Buechele, Reggie Hemphill, DeMarco Boyd, and Tren’Davian Dickson. We caught up with “Young Megatron†to get his thoughts on the Rice game.
On how the visit went, Johnson told us, “It was live! I loved the game atmosphereâ€. For guys like Johnson and Dickson, it was a great opportunity to get to know their future quarterback Shane Buechele. Johnson was familiar with Buechele, but embraced the opportunity to spend more time with Buechele and forge a bond with his future signal caller. “I hung out with him a while ago on an unofficial. This was the first game we watched together.â€
Even with the upheaval in the coaching staff, it’s clear to see this class remains committed and tight with one another. If Charlie Strong can forge another class like the one he had last year it would be a huge step in the right direction for this program.

Antoine Cannady, a Dawson High School (Pearland, TX) Tight End turned Defensive End, was another recruit that made the trip to Austin to soak up the Rice game. Cannady, who had some traction/interaction with the staff after Texas Relays this year, recently committed to play his college ball in West Point, for Army. Cannady told us he "had a blast" on the visit and the "feeling of Texas was amazing." He spoke very highly of the coaching staff. mentioning, their passion as being evident, and he had great respect for what he calls the "genuine nature" of the fans.
While Cannady is committed to the United States Military Academy, which is respectable in itself, he loves Texas and what it represents.
"It means a lot to represent that [university of Texas] school."
