Buechele update - 9/7/17

Well we only have 2 QB's on the roster.  If Shane gets hurt which is more suspect to injury just due to his build then we still have Sam.  We need Shane healthy before conference play.  If there is one game on the schedule where Sam has the best chance to suceed its SJSU.  Besides he is built like a LB.  Its all we have as far as QB's therefore playing only Sam seems the logical choice.
I agree...mostly.  Hopefully the game flows in a way that come the 4th Heard can get some snaps.  My concern is that Shane's injury is possibly something that lingers.  Shoulder injuries are "special" in that they generally take a long time to heal.  He may even feel great and one hit can change all that.  I think Sam plays the majority of the snaps Saturday.  And if the opportunity arises, play Heard to close the game.  I wouldn't allow Heard to practice with the wideouts until Shane is cleared and completely healthy i.e. makes it thru a complete game...

Yea I agree if Sam has played well, why not play Heard because if Shane gets hurt again later in the season then Heard needs some reps.  In the PC yesterday Herman really downplayed Heard at QB.

Word?  Makes sense tho.  I mean, they have "their guys" and I'm sure would prefer to move forward as such.  But I think Herman is smart enough to have Heard prepared for a "worse case scenario".  They currently have packages for him.  It wouldn't surprise me in the least if, due to Shane's injury, that Herman had Beck expand those packages and perhaps even put together a game plan with Heard at qb "just in case".  With only 2 oft injured qb's and a walk on at the position, I would hope a contingency is being drawn up even if it's never used...

Baylor is complete trash right now. Anu won 10 games as a freshman in a P5 conference, and is a better athletic fit for what Herman/Beck want do with the position. You are right, Herman has forgotten more about the sport than any of us will ever know, but that doesn't mean he made a good decision to go into the season with two QBs, both coming off of injuries.

They went 3-9 and finished 6th in the Pac 12 South last year. Agree, I can't understand why Herman didn't throw everything he could at something like that. lol

Anu is 6'1, 202 lbs. He's smaller than Buechelle and Ehlinger. During that glorious REDSHIRT freshman year that you meant to single out (he didn't play at all as a freshman), he averaged 2.1 yds per carry and 290 yds on the season rushing. So I'm not sure what the hell you're even talking about when you say he's a better athletic fit. Based on what? lol

He didn't play in most of those games, either. He was out with injury. I can see your point, which I didn't think about when I mentioned Anu. He was injured after the 1st game, and missed 5-6 games before returning as the backup. So while definitely not ideal to start a season with 2 QBs coming off injury, adding a 3rd would not be that much better either. Never mind on Anu.

I'm not as worried as I probably would be ordinarily. Shane needs to sit for SJSU and better heal himself for USC. And I would start Shane against USC if that healing happens and he's 100 percent.

This will be good experience for Ehlinger, something he badly needs. And it will show us what we have in him.

Heard has played QB a lot. So I'm not very concerned about getting him snaps against SJSU for the sake of getting him snaps. He has game experience behind center and beat OU. So we have a known commodity in him. There's not much to find out now. He just needs to know the plays, which he does since he plays other positions in the same offense.

I'm anxious to see what Sam can do. I'd love to be able to go the rest of the year with less worry because Shane seems to get hurt once or twice a year. And I'm glad we have TWO QBs in the fold in this recruiting class.
