Briles Tweet

I doubt we let it get past Fisher or Saban.
I really hope you're right - but I think Saban and Harbaugh are long shots, and if we whiff on Fisher it's a slippery slope to so-so land.

In my opinion...Sound like he was never interviewed or was told Texas is going in another direction. This gives him time to deny he is interested in Texas. We might hear more of these as it gets closer to "real" choice.

While Briles isn't the top of my list, we could do a lot worse. At the worst, he's one of the top 3 offensive minds in football with good connections with Texas high school football teams.

A good scheme can overcome poor talent on offense assuming you have a decent qb. It's harder to scheme around fundamental talent deficiency on defense. Briles coupled with Bumpas, Mason, or any other defensive coordinator that has had success against the spread and an upgraded talent pool isn't a bad floor.

Yep, that is what I was told/posted last week. Glad he is staying at Baylor, he has a good thing going there and it is much lower stress than he would have had here.

This would be my guess as well. It gives him cover from any angry Baylor fans.

Yesterday I got my ass chewed out on here for saying Briles is not a good coach. I believe I worded things wrong. I should have said I do no think he's a good choice for UT.
Alouha27,

No worries here, my friend. I believe you're passionate in what you believe, as am I. We can always agree to disagree. A lot of folks are in your camp that Briles wouldn't fit Austin. I can certainly understand those opinions. I think we're working on knee-jerk reactions. The first bit of scuttle and we run with it. I really thought Briles was on his way, but that appears to have changed. I'm just so ready for us to make a call and pull the trigger. Name a coach!!!! I'm crossing my fingers it's Fisher. FWIW

I agree with HookemDTX; however, should it get to the "if we whiff" mode, "someone better go back and get a sh*t load of dimes" and start over.

Some time back, someone posted that Patterson's M.O. suggested that the pick would be someone we weren't hearing about. Based on that, I have not worried much when I heard names like Briles, Strong, Mora, Jr., etc. I'm still confident that it will be Saban, John Harbaugh, or Fisher. The rest is just noise (tired of talking about smokescreens).

Count me among those that think that if Briles was in serious contention, he knows that someone else is on his way to Austin and is saving face on the loyalty front.

Thanks RC! I was more refering to the other guy who called me a moron because he disliked what I said. And I probably should not have said Briles isn't a good coach. I should have said he isn't good enough IMO. And I feel that way because we're talking about Saban, Fisher and Harbaugh. To me those guys are better suited for Texas. Anyways, all is good and hopefully we get someone we can all rally behind! Hook 'Em!
