I'd take Briles. I think he could turn this thing around very quickly. The biggest issue is that I don't think he's a guy who's going to be here for 15+ years, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing either. Look at how much Mack's success changed following his great run.

Here are reasons why I want Briles:

1. Knows and is able to recruit Texas

2. Coaches and recruits to a system

3. QB play is the most important position on the field and his are always extremely strong

4. Defense has improved over time

I haven't been a huge Briles guy, but the more I've watched what he's been able to do at Baylor, the more I've grown to like what he's been able to accomplish there. While I do not think Texas needs to hire someone with ties to the state in order to recruit, at the same time, if we are able to poach a guy like Briles with the built in advantages that he has, why not do it?

i think Briles would be a very good HC for UT, he seems to get faster and better results from his players, he knows Texas HS coaches, he's built 2 good programs, recruits would love to play in his offense scheme, and most important he can damn sure coach up the QBs and we're really hurting in that dept next year. If he would bring in a good DC I think he would kill it here at UT

The one thing that I keep thinking about is the extra demands of being the coach at the University of Texas. The next coach has to be all in on producing a product the fan base demands, while also meeting the LHN and other demands. I think that the media requirements and the fact we have had someone as personable as Mack places additional hiring criteria that other programs probably don't have. Just some thoughts...

I have the feeling that Briles is here to stay in the B12. Whether he is at Baylor or Texas, Briles future looks bright.

Stupid post. Briles would kill it here. He wasn't my first choice but if we can't get Saban, Meyer or the harbaughs, I would take him in a heartbeat. His offense and his work with qb's alone should put him high on the list.

...no way would i accept arthur briles as the next head coach of the university of texas.... no way, no how, yuk, cannot happen, are you kidding, and besides doesn't this man absolutely "hates" texas? why does everyone conveniently keep not acknowledging this angle... trust me it does exist. my kid sister graduated as per baylor... it is well known there. no arthur briles at texas ever!
