Braxton rumors

I don't know what you call our offense either. I do feel we want to be a run first offense. Doing this out of the gun doesn't make us a spread. Formation is different from scheme. I think our offense is suited for a mobile QB who runs 5-10 times a game, throws off of bootleg type plays, all while getting into 4 wide 'pass' plays. I think we want to be a multiple formation offense, utilizing everything from the I to no back. You're right, its not 'pro-style' however I don't consider it as strictly a spread offense either. Being multiple (formations ) makes it much harder for defenses to prepare for. Once again, I 100% believe our offense this year was a product of what we had at QB

If you want to see what Charlie Strong 'wants to be' look at Louisville the last 4 years.  Swoopes isn't capable of running that offense - but that's what Strong would like this offense to eventually be.  Watson had his work cut out for him trying to transform the soon to be TE back into a QB and trying to create and offense that Swoopes could run.  I don't think neither Swoopes or Watson are going to be proud of what they did last season.

And regarding transfers - it doesn't need to be a big name / big time transfer.  What it needs to be is a grad transfer who is capable of coming in and starting from Day 1 - someone who can come in and push Heard for the job so that there isn't an 'anointed' starter - someone who can backup if necessary or win some games if pushed into the starting role.

Strong and Watson want competition.

At Louisville, they were not really a run first offense. They were ball controll, but they passwed for over 300 yds per game and ran for around 150 yds per game.

If Swoopes isn't OUT of the QB rotation in practice when Fall camp starts, we are F****ed......... for one of two reasons. Either we didn't recruit @ QB worth a damn, or Charlie and Watson are dumber than a stump, and stubborn to a fault like Mack was. The greatest QB coach in the history of football can't fix this Swoopes kid. Wasting time with him is just going to put our other QBs further behind in development. We also better have at least four new starters on the OL in September or ND is going to donkey stomp us.

Well, that's a two edged sword isn't it?

Staying with the same O-Line is a recipe for disaster, yet anyone, anyone going into South Bend with 4 new starters, especially freshman, should expect a donkey stomping. Do I think we get donkey stomped? I'm rooting for Wickline to pull his greatest coaching job of his career.

That depends on a whole lot of things.

1. You have 2 QBs ready which would have to include either a true Freshman or a transfer (if we get one)

2. Heard isn't a dud

3. Swoopes doesn't have some kind born again hard QB.

I am hoping we get a transfer in and we can have a top 2 combination of Heard and transfer (any order), but if Gentry comes in and proves himself I am good.

Just remember Gentry played HS against weak competition and refused to go to the All American or Elite 11 camps. Hard to know how good he is in the mental aspect.

I have serious doubts about 2 and 3. My biggest concern is not having a 2nd QB ready or the coaches not wanting to burn a shirt.

In the end, next year is a stepping stone. We need to see serious improvement for the future.

Supposed to happen before NSD

NSD is Feb 4

UT classes start Jan 20

So, totally do-able

Probably already done (paperwork-wise) given what Higdon said in past

Announcement Monday Night/Tuesday?

Add in a better OL and we are ready to rock

Please let this happen

Yep - if its going to happen I could see how the date kept getting pushed back.  First by getting into the playoff, and then by winning the semi-final game.

And from OSU/Urban Meyer perspective - even if they know that he is gone, it makes no sense for them to admit it now.  Better for them to do what they've done and make a statement that Miller is staying.

Plus Urban and Charlie are BFFs

They go all way back to Holtz' 1996 ND team

Meyer on Strong "He's arguably the finest coach in the country, And an even better person."

Given that, it is not difficult to imagine a scenario where Meyer actually aided Miller finding a soft landing place in 2015 with his buddy.

I think Braxton Miller to Texas would be best-case scenario for our QB situation in terms of what we are looking for to come in and have competition. Heard can develop and be a backup ready to come in at any time, Gentry can redshirt, and Swoopes can never play QB for us again. Best case scenario, fingers crossed.

Competition makes the good ones better and separates those that just don't have it. Hence why our QB situation has been so bad for the last several years.
