While Texas has had some disappointing results in Big12 play so far this year, they find themselves right in the thick of the big 12 regular season championship race. Teams have played between 12 and 18 games so far making it challenging to compare records but of the top 6 teams 3 have 5 losses and 3 have dropped 6. At 9-6 Texas currently ranks 3rd overall.

This weekend will go a long way to determine the chances Texas has at taking the Big 12 crown. A sweep would put us in a tie with TCU while also adding 3 losses to 2nd place Ok. States resume. At a minimum, we need a 2-1 series victory over Ok. State to remain competitive. The other schools remaining in the mix will cannibalize each other to some degree as well due to being matched up against each other. After this weekend, Texas has good matchups at West Virginia and at home against Kansas to close out the year. 6-0 or 5-1 in those two series could be enough to bring home the trophy.

Standings and remaining series:

1. TCU                       12-6 vs. OU, At Kansas

2. Oklahoma State   10-5 at Texas, vs Tech, at Baylor

3. Texas                    9-6 vs Ok. State, at WV, vs Kansas

4. Texas Tech           9-6 at Baylor, at Ok. State, vs OU

5. Oklahoma             7-5 vs K State, at TCU, Vs WV, At Tech

6. West Virginia        7-5 at Kansas, vs Texas, at OU, vs K State

The bats have seemingly come alive, but we're still not there with the pitching. Hopefully, it all comes together soon although the pitching hasn't been too bad in the last few games.

Melendez is a beast.

Technically Tech is in 3rd since they have the head to head against us which would put is in 4th.

Big weekend coming up for the Horns!

True, I think the standings just show the tied teams alphabetically. Nice thing is we have the tie-breaker over TCU and OU. Hopefully we win both the Ok State and WVU series too.

Win the OSU series and the WV series and sweep Kansas. Plus take care the of mid week games and we will be fine. Should host a regional, but not certain of the super regionals.  Sweep 2 of the series and winning the OSU series and the debate will begin as to hosting a super regionals. The pitching looked better this past weekend.

I think you hit it on the nose. Going 7-2 would be a nice finish, probably fall a game or 2 short of the conference title, pretty much a lock for a regional.

Finish 8-1 and we have a good chance to win the conference title (depending on tie-breaker). Would probably land close to a top 8 team according to RPI which would definitely put us in the conversation for a super regional.

To be safe, I say we just go ahead and finish out conference play 9-0.

After sweeping us, Oklahoma State is now in the drivers seat in the conference. They have 5 losses with 6 games remaining. TCU, OU and West Virginia all sit at 6 losses with 6 games remaining for TCU and 9 for OU and West Virginia.

Still set up for an interesting finish, it just won't include Texas at this point.
