Best Tablet for the Money?

I have an iPad but I am looking for a cheaper tablet for my 9 year old for Christmas. No way I am spending iPad money on one but I am looking for another one that might be cost effective. That Kindle Fire looks ok but I have no idea... Thoughts?

Asus has a fairly good one for around 499. I prefer it over the iPad. Bigger screen, hdmi input and more.

I go with the Kindle Fire..You can get one on Amazon for under $200 and has great screen resolution. Perfect for kids and adults..I would love one myself..it is a great reader and getting a child to read is a great thing..

The Fire looks like a good buy for sure. My goal of getting my oldest one now has been scrapped because he is getting a Nintendo 3DS andan XBOX 360. Damn kids are expensive!
