Late last month Chipper Jones announced he would be retiring at the end of this baseball season. He has had a hell of a career - all with the Atlanta Braves (drafted in 1990 amateur draft - 1st pick) & made his MLB debut in '93. As far as switch hitters are concerned, which Jones i, Micky Mantle is probably the best switch hitter to ever play the game. His stats are off the chart. When it comes to the next 4 the debate begins to get lively. Eddie Murray, Chipper Jones, Pete Rose... The names start flying. I personally think Chipper - assuming he has somewhat of a decent season this year - has earned the #2 spot on my list. He has 455 career home runs, 1563 RBI's and .935 On Base + Slugging Percentage. Plus he is not weak on one side versus the other. Hits power left and right.

I tip my cap to Chipper and a great career with the Braves. He's my #2 switch hitter of all time.

Chipper has been one of my all time favorites. Lance Berkman is pretty solid switch hitter. Was Tim Raines a switch hitter? Mickey Mantle could hold his own.
