Be glad we don't have A&M's AD

[utisdabomb12]

They just gave their basketball coach Kennedy an extension.

1-So far as the coach at A&M he's gone 14-18, 17-14, and 18-16. He's never made the tournament.

2-In 5 years at Murray State he made the tournament once, lost in the second round. Those Murray State teams were loaded with talent too.

3-He's made the tournament twice in 14 years as a head coach.

People like to bitch about Patterson, but be glad we don't have an AD that would extend a coach like this. Absolutely mind boggling.

Aggy is a womens' BBall school

aggie gave Sumblin a $2M raise for going 8-4 last year.  It doesn't surprise me at all.

Hyman's an empty suit

Not saying the basketball coach deserves a raise but I heard on the radio that aggy has the number 2 recruiting class in BB. How is he getting such high recruits?

How would you like to be aggie AD, Eric Hyman?

You're hamstrung with a HC who has a 6-year, $30M guaranteed contract.  Basically, you gotta hope he does something extra stupid to be fired "for cause" like literally humping a sheep or being publicly intoxicated like his players.  Not an enviable position.

You've gotta sell-out a now 102k stadium (largest in the SEC, WHOOP!) when you only sold-out your 88k stadium 26 times over 13 years prior to joining SEC.  Yes, SEC teams "travel better", but where are they gonna stay in B/CS?  No new hotel rooms were built, not to mention the parking lots weren't expanded.

Good grief, what a shit-show.

Basketball is a very different kind of recruiting. I mean Kentucky is ranked 58th on 247 (who has TAMU ranked 2nd) and Kansas isn't even ranked in the 108 teams they have ranked. But nobody actually thinks that either of those teams will be anything less than a Top 20 team next year. It's all about when you need the recruits. A large part of TAMU's rank is based off the fact that they needed to pick up at least four players in 2015.

Yep basketball recruiting is often a numbers game. We won't be ranked very high in terms of recruiting just because we don't have scholarships to offer. The other thing is that Kennedy has made some really dumb choices on the recruiting trail. He should have never taken both Davis and Thomas together,as they are the same player. Even Jerry Meyer said the two players can't coexist because they are slow below the block players. Right now Kennedy is in panic mode and is doing anything to bring hype to the program, even if that means roster mismanagement. They still don't have a legit point guard but they keep taking all these bigs because it helps their "recruiting ranking".They'e now wasted a scholarship on Avery Johnson Jr, who couldn't even make our practice squad, and Davis/Thomas. That's why you can't get caught up in recruiting rankings. A&M has the numbers for a good recruiting class but Kennedy has made some stupid decisions. Barnes could probably field a top 10 class this year, but there's no need to take a big when there isn't a need and more elite recruits in 2016. Recruiting is about taking players when you truly need them and prioritizing elite players in specific cycles.

It was an aggy radio station that said their ranking was number two and they had picked up two of the top 50 players. If there is any truth to that then I was just dumbfounded why the recruits would go there. They have been bad 3-4 years now.

They are all Dallas kids. It's why Kennedy wasted a scholarship on Avery Johnson Jr to try and open a pipeline to that area. It's actually not very surprising as they all run in the same circles (AAU, high school acquaintances, etc). Thomas and Gilder are very good friends, and Texas could have probably had both if they actively recruited them. Texas had very little interest in Gilder because of Davis/Roach. Like the above poster stated, recruiting is often a game of need.

Thanks for the info. They don't have anything else positive to talk about on the aggy station so they we playing up how great the class was and how their coach is building the program his way and his fourth year is the year he puts it all together
