For some reason I've always had the perception that there was more experience on this team. This team is much younger then I thought. We will be returning some serious talent next year.

Starting catcher-Tres Barrera (F)

Starting 1B-Kacy Clemens (F)

Starting 2B- Brooks Marlow (J)

Starting SS- CJ Hinojosa (So)

Starting 3B-Zane Gurwitz and Andy McGuire (Both F)

Starting RF-Ben Johnson (So)

Starting CF-Mark Payton (Senior)

Starting LF-Colling Shaw (J)

Jeremy Montalbano also sees significant time at catcher and DH (So)

Starters

Justin Peters (J)

Parker French (J)

Nathan Thornhill (Senior)

Lukas Schiraldi (J)

Bullpen

Travis Duke (So)

Blake Goins (F)

Jon Malmin (F)

Josh Sawyer (F)

Chad Hollingsworth (So)

Ty Culbreth (So)

James Swan (F)

Morgan Cooper (F)

John Curtiss (So)

Essentially we will only be losing 1 player next year in terms of fielding and bats. Granted, it's a pretty big loss in Payton. We also lose Felts, but he really hasn't been a consistent player in the rotation. In terms of pitching we will only be losing one starter in Thornhill, who can be replaced with Schiraldi or even one of the Freshman arms in the bullpen like Goins or Sawyer. Texas won't lose anybody out of it's bullpen next year. Some serious talent returning next year. The only player that has the potential to go pro IMO is Barrera, but he's got some major developing to do if that's going to happen after this year.

We lose A LOT next year. Not to say we don't have pieces in place behind them, but we definitely lose a significant portion of our team.

French

Peters

Thornhill

Marlow

Payton

Felts

Probably Schiraldi

Maybe Marlow/Shaw

Barrera can't go pro for 2 more years.

Are you talking about this year or the year following?

Payton, Felts and Thornhill are gone after this year.

There's no way Shaw, Marlow or Schiraldi are gone after this year. Not even close to ready. French and Peters could potentially go pro after this year, but it's highly unlikely. They just don't have the stuff yet. I know French's family too, he's staying four years to get his degree. The only player out of the bunch that might go pro is Peters after this year.

Maybe you referring to next year, as in the end of the 2015 season. I was just confused because you grouped Payton, Felts and Thornhill with those other players.

I was talking about after this year.

I would say its highly unlikely Peters and French stay. HIGHLY unlikely. Schiraldi is going to get drafted, and depending on how he progresses this season it could rise substantially. He's got the tools, intangibles. I'd say its 75/25 he goes.

Shaw and Marlow you never know. Marlow is hurt, so he's probably coming back since he'll be a junior again, he'll have his leverage still. Shaw keeps hitting like he does and a team is going to take a mid round waiver on him and he'd be pressed not to take it.

We can agree to disagree. Peters is the only pitcher that might leave early. Schiraldi has way to many mechanical issues to even think about going pro yet, and French doesn't have enough stuff yet to think about going pro. I'm not even worried about Schiraldi and French, because no way they are leaving after this year.

Parker French 74th overall prospect - http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/2/7/5387356/mlb-draft-top-300-prospects-2014
Dillon Peters 97th

Schiraldi 139

Curtis 241 (could leave, old enough)

If they go at those numbers, all are assuredly gone. I'm 99% positive French and Peters are gone. Schiraldi too with a ~7th rd pick.
French isn't going anywhere. Like I said I know his family, and his parents will force him to get his degree before making the jump. Schiraldi isn't going anywhere either because it would be an unwise move to make the jump after this year. Mechanical issues really hurt his stock right now. If he comes back and improves on his mechanics, he has the stuff to go high in the draft. There's a reason Calvin pushed the move to Texas, he wanted Lukas to work a couple years with Augie and Skip. It would be an absolutely dumb move by Lukas to make the jump this year, and Calvin has been around the game long enough to know that. There's a chance Peters could make the jump.

Neither are going to come back because they will lose leverage in the draft. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you're flat out wrong on a good portion of this.

You are entitled to your opinion. You could very well be correct, but I don't see it. How would someone like Schiraldi lose leverage? If anything he would gain more leverage in the draft if he came back another year, and improved his mechanics. I think there's a chance Peters is gone, but I don't think Schiraldi or French are going anywhere for a plethora of reasons. Guess we'll find out in a few months.

The leverage is that these guys can negotiate a better contract when they have the option to return to school. After their senior season the teams know they have no other options. That is why it was unusual to see thornhill and Payton return this year. Lukas will be gone after this year. And I can tell you that his parents will support this 100%.

You may very well be right. IMO Lukas would be better served to return for another year. Maybe he loses leverage in terms of negotiating a contract, but I think he would gain significant leverage by improving his mechanics. Lukas has great stuff it's just about developing his mechanics, and I think development in that area could significantly improve his stock.

As for French, like I said I would be shocked if he made the jump. I've known his sister for years, and I can tell you the French family is education first.

Bonuses are slotted now so negotiation is at a minimum.
