Auston Banks is a 5-9, 180 lb all-purpose back attending Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, TN. The senior rushed for 1,950 yards and 30 touchdowns this season for the Fighting Irish.  While Banks holds no current offers to play at the next level, schools are beginning to take notice of his skills.

Is Texas Interested?

I talked with Auston late last night and he confirmed that he and Texas have communicated.  The Longhorns have not extended a formal offer, but Banks told me the coaching staff was supposed to be back in touch later this week.  The staff is shuffling things around right now, as you can imagine, trying to determine what the numbers look like, etc...

He's extremely quick and shifty, which is why coaches like what they see.  Banks owns the fastest shuttle time in the nation at 3.84. and holds a best 40 yard-dash time of 4.38.  He mentioned the staff’s compliment of his ability to catch the ball in the backfield and accelerate.

Auston told me he has been playing running back since he was 7 years old and he loves it.  He also commented on the immense amount high school talent in Texas.

“There are a lot of fantastic players in Texas.  I’m not sure why guys would want to leave the state to play elsewhere” Banks said.

Earlier this year he won the MVP at the Chicago - Nike Football Training Camp.

While the eyes of Texas might be on Banks, it isn’t the only program looking.  New SMU Running Backs Coach (and former DeSoto High School Head Coach) Claude Mathis has contacted Banks.

I'll post more when I hear something else.

Reminds me of Hodges Mitchell.... very good acceleration through hole, some great moves and speed to burn... what is not to like.

Hook 'Em!

The kid accelerates like a Lamborghini. He'd be a very valuable kick returner and slot receiver if he can catch the ball well. With that said, there has to be a reason why programs are only just now getting around to checking the kid out. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Well, looks like my tidbit had some wheels after all.

Either he ain't all that ( Poor competition ), or there are grade issues for NOBODY to be all over this kid.

The kid's speed definitely looks legit. Reading his twitter he definitely seems like a kid you would want..very motivated..no "swag" posts for lack of a better term. Also said he is Top 20 in the nation in track. Dont know what event. Any chance he gets a track offer and walks on for football?

Once you play a single down in football, your athletic scholarship automatically counts as a football scholarship.

I looked a little bit on Google and the best time it showed in the 100 meters was 10.9  That's not too quick.

This is the state of Texas.. You don't go out of state to get a RB that has 0 offers... There are plenty of RBs in Texas that would hop on a Texas offer...
Unless he was willing to walk on which was implied in the original post here. Looks like he is starting to get some movement from some schools according to some posts as well. Agree, wouldn't burn a scholly here.
