Art Briles

Coach Briles is a perfect fit. Look at his body of work at Houston and Baylor; he would dominate at Texas.

The thing about Briles is that we'd need to give him an open checkbook to bring in the best DC he could. I don't dislike Bennett, but I would prefer someone else running that side of the ball with Briles. Mason from Stanford or Narduzzi from Mich State are obvious candidates, but I'd look long and hard at Pruitt from Florida State too.

if briles could get narduzzi..then give a blank check...im ok with that combo or charlie strong who i think along with briles would be our two best realistic options..i know we all want the pipedream but its not happening..

I am a huge fan of what he has accomplished at Baylor. It is very hard to turn a college program from a bottom feeder to a top level program and he has did that. He would kill it here, not so sure how he would do with the politics at UT, but there aren't many out there that will be able to deal with that as well as Mack did. Also think he would have a ton of respect from each high school coach. Working his way up from coaching high school, assistant coach in college to a head coach in Houston and then Baylor, and then hired to be the coach at UT. That's doing it the hard way and being a winner at each step.

A alumni friend of mine that knows Briles personally from back during his Stephenville days says there is absolutely, positively no way he leaves Baylor. His words, not mine. His comment was Baylor has given him everything he's asked for and his loyalty with the school is strong. He also noted that Briles has no love lost for UT because of the fiasco his son Kendall went through while here. He concluded by saying Briles doesn't have a hankering for the fish pool life that a coach at Texas leads. FWIW

This has always been my impressive of him too.

However, time and money always have a chance of changing these things.

not saying you are wrong or anything personal..., but I've seen some people who claim a level 1 connection to Briles say about the complete opposite in regard to his real feelings on Texas, and claim he would crawl here if seriously offered a good deal

I dont know which side is right...inconclusive at best I guess. I think he would be crazy not to be interested if UT was actually very serious about getting him

I certainly don't take anything personal, DizzG. I don't know Briles and the story is strictly my friends. He ran the press box at Pennington Field when Briles' Stephenville teams played there. I'm certain he offers strictly his opinion of what Briles would do.
