No Longhorn should travel to a Longhorn vs Razorback game without a little history of the rivalry.

During my time as a student at Texas, we flew into Arkansas twice, and both trips were eventful. Once our flight home (a charter) was delayed because one of our group was in an Emergency Room. Why, you might ask?

We were delayed because one of our group was injured as we marched out of Razorback Stadium by trash which included, partially eaten fruit, soft drinks, beer bottles, etc.  It was a broken beer bottle that cut the skin, so close to the eye, that doctors said a fraction of an inch closer would have resulted in lost vision in one eye for the injured person.

If driving during that time, it was important to get gas BEFORE one crossed the Texas border.  The Hog fans wouldn’t sell gas to Texas fans. Hopefully that has changed since chain stores have virtually taken over gasoline sales.

However, it can’t hurt to gas up before you cross the border.

Bevo and Smokey had difficulty making the trip due to gasoline shortages.

Regardless of those difficulties, expect the fan base to be a very diverse group.  Some will be polite and well-spoken, but others will be crazy, uneducated hillbillies.  Some of whom are probably the same fools who threw trash at us as we left their stadium in victory.

By the way, followed that incident, DiNino said he would not take the LHB back to Arkansas. Since DKR made it clear that he wanted the LHB with the team when they traveled, DiNino only relented when the President of the university of Arkansas wrote a letter of apology to The University of Texas.

Be ready, and Hook ‘em!

If y'all don't think Arky views UT as a historic rival, "BEAT TEXAS" t-shirts are on sale at AR Walmarts statewide. Fayettnam will be a zoo next week.

Cousin and his wife were students at UT and they drove up for the 69 game in their VW. Got there just before game time and came back as soon as the game was over. Nice little day trip, lol.

They pretty much echoed everything you said. Bottom line, pigs fans were basically trash.

I was there on 1987 when Tony Jones caught the game winner on the last play of the game. Had a friend who went to arky. He had me park my car in his garage before the game because he had seen cars with Texas plates vandalized when Texas won. Glad I did! Got into a couple of scuffles getting out of the stadium, got to my car, and hauled ass for the boarder. Lots of crazies who hate Texas in general and UT specifically.

I’ve been around seven decades and have yet to meet one.
They are few and far between.Had dinner at his house day of big game with Nixon at game. He really was a nice guy and haddistant kin go to Texas for J. Mac.

Spent 3 years living close to Ft. Smith and met some really good people in pigville. That said, they are nuts on game day and rabid anti Texas people. It will be a legitimate hostile environment. Will be a big test of Sark and his staff's ability to prepare the team for handling adversity.

It was all worth it, when we flew in that night, the Tower was the prettiest Burnt Orange that I had ever seen!

The drag was bumper to bumper with students.  We were getting out of cars to talk to our friends, and cars were blaring The Eyes, Texas Fight, and Grandioso. It was so much fun!

#1 Hookem!

And let's not forget what then hog coach Bill enema said about how beating Texas was erotic. Pig pervert. ?

I attended my first Texas football game in 1977 and was an instant FANatic!  Up until Arkansas’ departure in 1991 there were 3 HUGE games every year:

1. Aggie  2. OU  3. Arkansas

In that order for me (I know many would rank the OU game #1).  These games were momentous events every year!  It was sports hatred at its finest!!

I, for one, welcome both villains back to our schedule.  Sports are more fun with “bad guys!”  The Olympics were more titillating with the Soviet Union and college football is better with Texas Arkansas.

At the pep rally for Texas/Arkansas my Freshman year, which was in Memorial Stadium, there were over 20,000.

For me, it’s always been:

OU, Arkansas, then Lil Bro’
