Anyone else feeling nervous about Mack

I think other than making some noise and further cementing his tarnished legacy in Austin now what can Mack really do?

He's not going to sue when it really comes down to it IMO. I've seen no one with any legal background claim he has any case. I dont think even Jamail would really go down that road and ruin his legacy at Texas all for Mack

Maybe Texas ups his buyout agreement and he just goes away. Thats more likely than going totally nuclear when he has a future career in TV or other things that could easily be severely damaged soon

Mack is almost near the point of no return with the Texas fan base. He's not stupid. When it really reaches the end point I still dont believe Mack wants to have a situation where he is NEVER welcomed back at Texas for anything, and is forever remembered in a very...very bad light

I think they give him more money with a clause that says that of he does anything that could be construed as harmful to ut that all future payments are forfeited

Well my nightmare is we win the Alamo Bowl; the search committee can not find a "suitable" replacement and we keep Mack;-0

My definition of a "suitable" replacement is someone who can breath;-)

You really have to look at the lengths in which Mack would have to go to mess things up. Could he possibly tarnish our opportunity of getting Saban? Yes, I'd say that is an unfortunate reality. But he literally has no ground to stand on when it comes to bringing in someone like Fisher. And if Fisher is what happens as a result of us not getting Saban, I say we've still won and Mack has still lost.

Ummm...he (and Jamail) can create such a poisonous atmosphere around Texas football that, even if they lose out in the end, no big-name coach would want to touch us with a barge-pole. We would, thus be left with a tier2/3 possibility (e.g. Fedora). It is possible that this is exactly what Mack's aiming for (and more money, of course).

I just dont buy Mack really wants to go down that road of no return. I think this is all negotiation crap, and his ego slowing crumbling as he realizes this is really over.

As some have stated I think some of this has been tolerated by the powers at be as Mack has basically created his own firewall between he and the university at this point...but there will be a time where it has to end.

If Mack and Jamail took this further and really created that totally poisonous situation Mack would never been welcomed back at Texas again..even after a few years. people would never forget. He would be more of a pariah than John Mackovic. I dont think even Mack wants that.

Everything you say is correct. But it seems like, at the moment, either (1) Mack is not seeing the long-term effects all this will have on his legacy, or (2) Somebody else (Sally? Jamail?) is calling the shots. I think that there is already a lot of lasting damage to his legacy and each day that this melodrama continues will make it worse. Mack really seems set against NS for reasons that I cannot comprehend; I realize that the most popular thinking on this is that he does not want NS to win with his recruits. However, Fisher-Briles-Malzahn-Harbaugh are all capable of coming in and turning this thing around by year 2. So this leads me to believe that Mack's deliberately poisoning the well against any big-name hire.

the sad thing is Mack is supposed to be preparing for coaching these kids in his last game at the Alamo Bowl.

how much is he really putting into that? Reports on practices have not been good. I feel sorry for the players. What a douche

For a man so concerned about PR in his 16 year tenure as HC at UT, I'm a bit surprised by his actions during this process. He has to know what the lasting negative effects will be, right?

I wont lie, I am a bit nervous as to the new info coming out, and the timing of it coming out right around the time that news about Saban to Texas not being dead (except on OB). I am curious if this is Mack's latest attempt to derail the plan again. I dont think he has anywhere near the influence to do it again, but like others have mentioned, he can make the coaching job look less desirable with the old coach that just left/removed sticking around making noise. In my opinion, all that needs to be said about the situation, was said by Mack at his press conference "You guys are more excited about the new guy coming in, than the old guy leaving". To me, that just proves that he is more self centered than most of us realized. If he TRULY loved UT, and was stepping down because it was the best thing for UT, as he stated at his press conference, then that quote would have never been uttered by him.

Dizz, you just killed it!! Anyone else think that the Billboard was put there as an insult to Mack after all the info that came out about him?

If Powers allows the hiring of the highest paid public employee in the state of Texas to become a circus and a fiasco, he will do so at the expense of his support in the legislature. If Powers begins to appear that he has lost the ability to manage all the complexities involved with being the president of UT Austin, his position and his legacy will be seriously at risk. I can see Powers allowing the process to work itself out, but at some point, for his own reasons, he will have to say "enough." Likewise, Patterson's legitimacy as AD remains to be established. Allowing his first major responsibility to become a running joke will seriously weaken him professionally.

Mack needs to coach the bowl game and then leave to allow people to start moving the program forward. Powers and Patterson are going to be under a lot of scrutiny. I don't see them allowing Mack to weaken them to keep from hurting Mack's feelings by pushing him aside. Neither Powers nor Patterson got where they are without knowing how to shove others aside when needed.

Didnt he already hand in his resignation? How can you try to renegotiate your legally binding resignation for more money? This makes absolutely no sense. Maybe someone could clear this up for me.?

It's quite simple. You ask for it. Nothing is keeping Bill Powers from saying "no."

From my understanding(from life experiences), that person can ask all the like but the fact remains the same. They vacated their position and cant really demand anything since the higher ups can laugh or be nice and give them more. Im really confused as to how Mack is supposedly trying to get more money or do something highly illegal like blackmail. This seems to be turning into one of those daytime shows for old women! I think im going to make a whiskey drink and i just got up! ;p

Yup. I have a feeling we could be looking at a beat down of epic proportions, Monday night. Hope I'm wrong.
