Per Jeff Goodman of ESPN, Texas freshman guard Andrew Jones has declared for the NBA draft, but won't sign with an agent.

Please reference prior commentary/diatribes regarding the one and done crap show that ruins college hoops for me. Suck it one and done.

I wish they allowed them to go straight to the NBA out of HS, but if they went to school they had to stay at least 3 years.
Me too. I wish it was that way for all sports. I also think drafts of any kind should be abolished. It violates the free labor market.

Of course people would argue that the best players would only sign with teams like the Cowboys, Lakers and the Yankee's, but that's not much of a reasonable argument.

If you want Shaka Smart to hang around Austin for a few years, this is really bad news.

Perhaps he should have talked with Georgetown?  Things are not looking good here.

Only sport I would argue against that is football because I don't think players are anywhere close physically or mentally to step on the same playing fields with NFL vets.

This statement makes me feel better about his chances of coming back. It really might be a situation where he wants to find out what he needs work on in the offseason, which makes sense. I fully expected him to be gone after next season. Also, according to this article, he's currently ranked the No. 47 prospect in the 2017 Draft, but the No. 20 prospect in the 2018 Draft:

Really think he should stay 1 more year. Allen should go for sure. But I fully believe Jones would only solidify himself as a mid first rounder (aka Guaranteed Money!!!!) in a weaker class next year. If he falls to the 2nd round he isn't guaranteed a dime. I think he can actually make more money by waiting where I don't think that is the case with Allen.

Best of luck whatever he decides to do. Hook Em.

I see your point and you're right 90% are not ready out of high school. There would have to be great circumspection in practice on the part of the NFL teams to not sign guys.

Yeah there are probably a handful of guys I can think of in my head that I might have made a case for, but they are few and far between. The physicality, speed, and complexity of NFL is just leaps and bounds ahead of HS football in every way.

Now if they had a developmental league similar to the D-League or the minor league system in baseball that allowed them to come along slowly... that would be interesting. Still though there is a lot of moving parts.
