Looks like Akina is likely gone per his Twitter post below. Thanks for the last 13 years coach Akina!

Duane Akina ‏@CoachAkina9s

I want to thank all the support staff, players & coaches that have been so good to me and my family for the past 13 yrs. HOOKEM HORNS

not really a suprise but still hate to see it...on another note theres buzz that the BOR will meet monday to approve strong but untill then there wont be any official assistant hires announced..so we may see this drag till tuesday

Saw Q Diggs twitter post, "smdh", and figured this is what it meant. I will miss Akina.

I just saw that on twitter, wow! I was expecting this to happen but it still brought up mixed emotions. Thank you Coach Akina for being the man behind DBU! Thank you for the money wall!

I'd rather have Akina than Gray. At least we can count on Akina. Gray would dump us in a heartbeat for another NFL job.
We're likely not getting Gray, since he'd want nothing less than a DC position. Bedford has already been hired and appears in the UT directory (per another post). So no way to get Gray. I do regret Akina leaving, though.

This one is probably the one that hurts the most personally. Way more than Mack. If you've personally met Mr Akina he's an awesome guy.

Not sure I follow you. Mack Brown is, without doubt, the most awesome person I've ever met. Mack did more for more people, without ever looking for credit, than anyone I've ever known. And if you met him one time, he remembered it a year later when you saw him again.

This is the first decision by Strong that I don't support in the least. Terrible decision. The guy is a stellar DB coach and one of the reasons we are know as "DBU!"

Was he a team player? Did he support the program? Did he consider himself bigger than the head coach? Did he think rules applied to him? Did he take direction or did he do what he wanted to do?

I have read enough to make me wonder.

Exactly, and look at how much "trash" a few current and numerous former players are already talking. They dont know Strong, havent met him, havent seen him coach a second of practice at UT, but obviously he doesnt know what he is doing.

This is what I meant when I said it wasn't a good idea to just immediately let all the old players roam freely like Mack did.

Even old Mack was letting him walk 2 years ago.

Lucky he wasn't fired in 2007 as a disaster DC.

Go back and rematch 2006 Ohio State game.

DBU? Yeah how's that working out in 2014 recruiting?

I'm sure that's all Diaz's fault.

Sentimentality is an impediment to improving.

Interestingly enough, I thought he was a great teacher of fundamentals. That's why he put so many guys in the NFL.

He was not that good when it came to the overall scheme. Even in some of our good years, we gave up a lot of yards in the passing game.

I also thought when it came to playing zone, he wasn't the best there either.

I appreciate his time here and he's a good coach but im fully in the camp it was time to move on. Mack wanted too a few years ago and with a new head coach and staff (esp with strong being a defensive guy ) it's time for a change
