Seeing several reports that at least 13 AD staff members were laid off today. Not sure how many more are to come.

Also saw this little blurb. "according to salary data previously obtained by the Statesman, the UT athletic department had 448 full-time staff members with an aggregate base salary total of approximately $47.3 million. The Longhorns typically have more than 500 athletes, creating almost a 1:1 ratio, something unheard of in major college athletics."

Man, it's always unfortunate that people lose their jobs but the bloat in the AD is pretty bad. It had to be only a matter of time.

Saw this on another site. Draw your own conclusions.

Comparisons with other top departments are a good place to start gaining perspective:
If Texas cut about 150 positions - a full third of the department - they would be on par with Ohio State in number of employees at ~300, while supporting significantly fewer (almost half) the number of varsity athletic teams - 20 vs 36. Given this, 448 is staggeringly overstaffed.
