A Troubling Trend

Actually you have insulted me .. . .

Posters might not like my positions but I support them with facts and reality (not to mention history has shown I was far more right than wrong) but you will not find me offering the inane ramblings we see from our unibomber and his buddy . ..

He and the other troll have opinions (in this case largely hyperbole and butt hurt), largely unsupported by reality .. . . .though I do agree with at least one of them's admission he "doesn't know dick about what's actually going on"

All they are doing is trashing the board and making it unreadable. . . ..

As S-T-P said, it's the same unibomber style manifestos repeated over and over like Huey Long. . .hoping some fellow simpleton blindly follows them without scratching the surface of . .  .the rest of the story .. . .
Don't be mad, echeese.  You and Randolph are two of the more interesting posters on here.  And there are some really good ones.

This blog, in comparison to OB, IT, BON, BC and 247 is in it's infancy stage.  The mods are ernest and intent on delivering good content.  Sure, they don't have the deep seated contacts like the others - but they have a couple the others don't.  I know this as a fact.

But, all this aside, it still needs good posters like yourselves.  I love strong opinionated posters - they create argument which creates well organized thinking.  Who doesn't like this?

Yep, we can get childish and, sometimes, a little nasty, but I think we could all drink beer together with good natured banter.

Besides, who could be mad at SFG? :)

In other words, don't post anything unless most people are going to agree with it ;)

i clearly labeled that as JMO.

so, you choose to take me to task for stating my opinion, which you don't happen to agree with?  do i have that about right?

please don't put words in my mouth.  i never said not to post something that might not be popular, but a constant stream of what amounts to a daily beatdown is an entirely different matter.  frankly, i thought street nailed it earlier.

i don't like boards, or posters, who see it as their papal mandate to constantly stir the pot to create controversy simply for sake of discussion.  MBHornsfan falls in that category.   joey likes his posts.  i don't remember a single post of his that i really liked.   there might have been one or two, i just don't remember.  mostly, when i see them, i cringe ahead of time because a beatdown is coming.

he probably thinks the same of mine.   if he leaves, no biggie.  if i leave, no biggie.

i respect joeywa's opinion in the matter since he's about as level headed as they come.  don't agree with it, but i do respect it.

there,  it's a f'cking tie, just like soccer.

We won't put up with personal attacks on Horn Sports, folks. Just a reminder. We're all bigger than that.

Plenty of stuff to talk about related to the Horns......

Plus, football season is almost here!

Jim,

I do know MBHorn personally. While he does come across as opinionated, a troll he is not. He is one of the most passionate Texas fans I have ever met. He does have strong opinions on Longhorn athletics, and I believe he enjoys banter with other members here, as well as on his podcast. He has no problem sharing his take, nor does he have a problem taking a stance and supporting it to the end....a la our reigning Pissing Match champion echeese, ( ;) No offense Chuck!)

He may rub some the wrong way, but at the end of the day, there's not a single poster on here that hasn't been fired up by something someone else has posted. It happens. It's what happens when passionate fans gather in one place.

Let's just agree to have a cold beer and relax. As Aaron said, N Texas is when we get to see what Charlie & Co have done and we can all put our couch coach unis on and become critical.
If Big Mike would just refrain from the tired cliche, "move along, nothing to see here" I'd be happy.   B)

Personal insults have no place here or anywhere.  Leave them to OB and IT.

However, not being able to express differing opinions has no place here either.

I have had 3 very bossy women in my life - my mother, my wife and my nurse of 40 years.  They all thought their opinions were right and some of them even were.  And I loved them all.  I don't know what all this means, but it sounded good.

With UT being a private university, there is no reason anyone would be entitled to know dick about plans or management initiatives.

Oh, wait a minute. I forgot. UT is a fu@king public institution and every single person on the payroll is accountable to the taxpayers. Bill Powers has the balls to ask for the support of the alumni to save his job. Every single alumni has an absolute right to question Bill Powers why he deserves our support. We also have an absolute right to question the appropriateness of any hires Bill Powers made, especially when that hire is getting paid $1million per year.

Bottom line, we have every reason to question why we should support Steve Patterson, especially when he has utterly failed so far to deliver the change we were lead to believe he was hired to lead.

In the real world, where senior managers are expected to deliver, stakeholders generally expect something tangible after an employee has been on the job six months. Bill Powers was the guy in charge when the problems within Bellmont were allowed to fester. Anyone of us has every right to question whether once again, Bill Powers is not effectively leading what is a $165 million portion of the overall $2.3 billion operating budget.

We might not know dick about plans or mangement iniatives but Steve Patterson isn't entitled to tell us we aren't entitled to know dick about plans or management iniatives. That's not how it works. Public employees dont always get that option. Patterson may feel he can continue to deliver jack sh!t when it comes to promised change, but the clock is ticking. That's how it works when you work for a government entity.
sounds to me like your real beef is you don't know what's going on. but you assume whatever is going on, that you don't know anything about, HAS to be negative or counter productive. for all either of us know, there could be any number of plans or initiatives underway that are either still being negotiated or aren't ready to be announced publicly. that really wouldn't be unusual in the world of big business.
And therein lies our fundamental difference. When i don't know something, i withhold opinion until i do. you on the other form opinions on unknowns and broadcast the same ones ad nauseum in a style similar to Rainman blathering on about 'gotta see Wapner'.

True, but what is a message board if not a forum for expressing opinions?  Agree to disagree

You win. But only because of the last sentence. That was a good one :D

of course it is, but expressing the same one day-after-day serves little purpose other than to annoy. i'll agree to disagree with him tomorrow when he posts the exact same opinion virtually word for word. And Saturday, and sunday and...

It's kind of like what I said in the Very Concerned thread. I keep coming back to read the new posts expecting to read something new but it seems like that I keep reading the same thing over and over. I also added that it's probably just me, but then again maybe it's not.

It's "Groundhog Day"  all over again.  You know, that is a funny movie ... but the problem I have with it is that I can see myself getting caught up in an endless loop of watching it OVER and OVER again!

One other comment, regarding the fact that this is a public university.  Now I have no idea how employment goes within Belmont, and what the process is of firing someone.  But I will say this, I've been an employee of the State of Texas and the Federal Government for over 15 years.  Being that it is a public university, and therefore some of the legal process of hiring and firing may fall under the same rules and restrictions as our federal and/or state government, I know that the process of restructuring and hiring/firing someone under these premises is very difficult.  So 6 months may not be enough time for Patterson to fully restructure in the manner we feel he should.

Again, I'm not sure of the process inside Belmont.  Just food for thought and playing devil's advocate.

Patterson  has "dealt" with some of the minor players already.  The major players, the most visible ones, will be taken care of in due course.  At least those that need taken care of.

Everyone has been opining about Strong and recruiting when they need to pay attention to Steve Patterson.  Pay very close attention to what he is saying.  He is not woofing!

Listen to what he says about aggy, restructuring, foreign country games, the Texas brand, paying players, etc.

Shut up Pete. We were looking for General Patton so these delays are inexcusable. Blood and Guts would have figured a way by now.
