A little birdie

I think the sooner it happens the more pressure it puts on Saban and Bama to force an extension. Can you imagine the 5 weeks of press focus if Bama goes to MNC game as expected?

As much as I want Mack to retire I think the sooner it happens the less chance we actually have of landing Saban unless they lose to Auburn or in the SEC title game. There's no way that he leaves before the title game and there's no way that we wait until January to have a coach in place if Mack were to retire before Thanksgiving. That would be a month and a half without a coach. No school can withstand that.
Mack can announce retirement and still coach the bowl game, thus, the team will have a coach until then. I would feel ok with "no coach" from our bowl until after the MNC.

The fact is that if Mack announces his retirement soon and Texas has no rumors of coaches being interviewed, then a red flag will go up in Tuscaloosa. So it makes sense to wait till after Baylor to make the announcement.

Nothing confirmed yet but as Mcphaul said the wheels are in motion.
I'm down with that. We aren't getting a new coach until next year anyway.

I just want to be sure we are getting a NEW coach.

I am so sick of Mack, but this is just the beginning to our recovery. Next a solid coach in place, salvage what he can of recruiting and implement culture change this spring. It will be 2 or 3 seasons before we are good again, but at least this will be a start.

Man, I want Mack gone too but only if the targets are slam dunks like Saban, Briles, or Malzahn.

I'm okay with keeping Mack if we're talking Mora, Gruden or Tomlin. Those guys would actually set us back, imo.

This needs to be a dynamic hire.

I have watched Steve Patterson since he went to work for his dad with the Rockets. I have complete faith that he will bring a HC who will set this program on fire, whoever that may be.

Understand your concern but me thinks Texas can IF Saban shows up with three weeks left before NSD. The momentum from nat'l coverage would turn a decent 2014 class into a juggernaut. Three weeks, while not being ideal by any stretch, would be time enough to make some serious hay.

Again, that is IF Saban comes to Austin.

Wanna believe but a ton can happen between now and January.

We've proven we can let a couple of drops leak if we want to ;)

I have to respectfully disagree, this team has talent...it needs coaches!!!

I hope this is true. I'm actually starting to jump on the Gundy wagon some. I think that could be a big hire. Ya know...if we don't get Saban.

How crazy would it be though if Mack announces his retirement, Saban announces he'll be taking the Texas job and then Kirby Smart coaches Alabama in the National Championship game.
