The good:

1. Built and established a strong rapport with high school coaches in Texas

2. Respect for DKR and relationships with big money donors helped establish premier football facilities

3. Talked Ricky into staying and brought in the '99 recruiting class (Simms and Redding); showed UT to be in the national picture for recruiting....leading to VY and crew and national crown

4. Established an unprecedented family atmosphere and became a father figure to many student athletes

5. Maintained a sense of class and integrity that is respected by all in the college football world

The bad:

6. Loyal to a fault; decisions from Simms/ Applewhite to Diaz/ Applewhite to playing seniors ahead of talented youngsters often derailed success

7. CEO vision caused problems with lack of identity on coaching and offensive and defensive schemes

8. Head coach in waiting and seeming plan to retire hurt momentum and stability for recruiting that played into the last four years of mediocrity; and, this setback revitalized our in state rival for recruiting

9. OU.......it wasn't just the record, but the way we were sometimes beaten by teams of equal or less talent

10. See above, but the lack of conference titles with the opportunity to pick and chose from an elite state for recruiting

The ugly:

11. Cleve Bryant situation.....which was much more damaging to the structure of the program than many realize

12. Obvious insulation from reality of perspective.......to honestly believe that this could not be his last year as the leader of this storied program

13. Did not go out in the way that we would've all expected from such a class act and possibly hurt our chances with a program revitalizing hire in Saban

The conclusion:

14. It goes without saying that Mack Brown did amazing things for the University of Texas, and our program is at a much higher place than before his arrival. In fact, it could be argued that through his influence on the program, we will be able to make our next big time hire.

15. For sixteen years, Mack touched many lives through his positive vision and love of kids, and he represented our school with honor.

16. In time, he will receive his deserved accolades and place in UT history

To you coach, I say a sincere and final.....

Impressive young jedi, ObiWan has taught you well. Nice summation and it was truly exhilarating to win that MNC, especially in one of the top 10 college football games of all time.

longhorn yoda my friend I am to upset with MB to want to give him a hug. I know at some point I will get over it just not right now. MB has burned a lot of bridges to try and stay on coaching at Texas. In doing so he is try cast The University Texas in a bad shadow. My friends y'all have a great week.

Amen, good post Yoda. Mack deserves our gratitude and will always be appreciated by almost all clear-thinking UT fans. It's unfortunate that some people want to blame him for how the last week went down, failing to realize that Saban/Sexton were always just playing UT for the monster raise and were never coming here regardless of what Mack did or didn't do. All water under the bridge now though, UT will hire a great coach who will build on what Mack helped build and there will soon be joy in Mudville once again. Hook em

In my mind, he started out well but ended so badly, it's all cancelled out. I can't wait for him to leave.

I think loyalty to a fault is a very good point and it helps to explain his behavior over the last few weeks. Mack had a commitment to his staff, to his team, to his recruits and to their families and their high school coaches that he would not quit. So, when he knew that he was going to be expected to step down, he suddenly developed an interest in out-of-state in person recruiting that he had not had for several years, just to avoid the inevitable. His loyalty trumped the better interests of The University just as it had in the past.
