Folks, we've endured some hard times recently. Since Mack decided to become Alabama after the MNC game in 2009, we've wandered lost in the wilderness.
Our program has fallen. Last year, we went 6-7 and realized we were previously a lot of window dressing and once the place was cleaned up, the talent level was diminished.
Basketball has seen a similar path. We loved Coach Barnes but it just wasn't coming together for him. And in having this thoroughly proven to us, UT hoops sunk to levels we had surpassed years ago.
So we've become accustomed to negative news, negative developments, blah blah blah. It beats you down. Even in baseball, it's been let down after let down.
But today there is reason for optimism. Charlie's in his second year with the program. He has the kids understanding what he expects. An infusion of talent from last year and this year's class has been seen. We will have several freshmen starting (normally not an exciting thing, I know). But the thing is, it's going to be exciting. We're going to see Texas play hard, play tough, play like they're pissed off.
No Charlie Strong coached team will give it up to OU. We'll punch them in the mouth all afternoon in October and then pray they get up for more.
For the first time in some time, teams will fear our defense. And our offense will begin coming together, scoring points and growing up together.
We play like I think we're going to see them play, I'm a happy camper/fan regardless of the record at the end of the season.
On the basketball side, Shaka is an exciting coach that kids WANT to play for. He's in some recruiting battles with some serious talent, . and he's winning. His brand of basketball is likely what excites me most. It's going to be a live wire act.
For the first time in some time, we're about to experience good news, good developments, wins that used to be losses, pulling games out that we once left defeated. I'm stoked. I'm ready. Give me a damned helmet!
