NFL is set up differently, if you set up college ball that way then we can communicate. NFL has 32 teams 2 divisions If you didnt know, 37.5% make the playoffs. College football has roughly 119 teams, so by your math you want a 45 team playoff. This isnt basketball. College sports are run differently then pro for a reason. So that ends the comparing of college to pros i hope.
U never answered the question. I find it astounding that you can not comprehend that adding more teams diminishes regular season value. Yes Playoffs are needed but the question is how many teams deserved to get into the playoffs. The first team out will always complain and thats fine. But at some point you have to draw a line.
If you have 4 super conferences then its easy. conference title game is first round of playoffs. 4 champs get into playoffs.
If you have 5-7 big conferences thats when the issue arrises. IF that is the case then you cant have more than 8 bc you diminish the value of a regular season. This is assuming all the conferences have a title game. If you goal is the keep the regular season meaningful, ever game in the regular season meaningful (and mine is bc i think CFB has what no other game has and i think that is great) then letting more in devalues that. The more you add to the playoffs the less important each regular season game is but it allows you to make a mistake and not pay for it.
you can not argue letting more teams in the playoffs and saying regular season is more meaning full. i hope you get that. and its ok if you don't bc we will never agree.
I comprehend just fine. You seem to want the regular season to be so important that only a handful of teams make the playoff system, and then what maintain a chitty bowl system?
I am saying that adding teams to either 24 or 32 would create an exciting playoff system that will crown a true champion. It would allow about 20 to 25% of the d-1 teams to make the system, thus giving hope across the board to the Boises and Wyoming's. I think it is important for those schools to have hope .
I also think the bowl system needs to die, only the most rabid college football fans watch bowl games along with the fans of the teams involved. The ratings suxx and most of the games are not even close to sell outs, they are meaningless games
A playoff system allows meaningful competition with the drama of potential upsets.
If you want to win , you have to be prepared to play each week.
It would be a killer system and would quickly become a fan favorite.
The regular season would be about two things, make it into the tournament, get the best seed possible.
I don't think that diminishes the regular season, it changes it.
The bowl season is meaningless, it just is. Some years you actually get a MNC game that seems appropriate, some years not so much. With a playoff system, the 2 teams left standing for the champ game will have earned their way.
If it means restructuring college football, then so be it, it's about time.
The NFL has the template, college needs to get their act together and create a truly exciting and significant post season playoff system and get rid of the stupid bowls
