5 Thoughts Following The Win Over USC

I was so caught up in Hager, Johnson, Sterns I didn’t even notice if Adeoye get to play and help much? His speed is legit

and what about bimage?  i didn't see him out there either.  maybe i missed.

here is another thought.  i must be way out of touch with today's music.  some of the music they played during the game, i have no idea who the artist or song is...keke what?

I'm happy with a win.........sluggish start and all. Better hit the ground running next week or it can get really ugly, real fast.
It really doesn't seem to matter who our coordinators are, this seems to be true over recent years.

3. The targeting rule needs to go away. I thought this when Guston got tossed. I'll take the personal foul all day long, but the targeting rule needs to be reassessed. It's a natural process to lower your head as you initiate contact. And sometimes it takes two to tango.
Disagree... It's only a natural process to lower your head because modern football players wear head protection that doubles as a battering ram. That's the whole point of the targeting rule - it's actually an unnatural move.

For proof, look at Aussie football. They hit each other at full speed, with force, but using heads-up tackling instead. This is what people naturally do when they need to protect their own heads.

The targeting rule allows for that, and actually encourages players to heads-up tackle since the face grill is allowed to make contact, just not the crown of the helmet.

Granted - people have been hitting like for a long time, so retraining will take a bit. In that sense it may feel unnatural. But player safety has become a critical area with concussions, so football needs to revert back to tackling like they did before the helmet could be used as part of the tackle.

If I recall correctly, they haven’t implemented a targeting rule in high school yet, have they?

If not, they have to retrain their bodies when they get to college.

Watching usc v. WSU this evening and usc is absolutely awful.  Defense looks worse than against us...let’s hope Texas is actually improving and didn’t just beat a crappy usc team.

I watched too. Wash St won all the stats. Wash St and pirate impressed me. USC was able to wiggle out a win. USC was both impressive and unimpressive all in the same game.

Basically Wash St won all the stats because they simply ran more plays. WSU's QB threw twice as many passes as Daniels did and didn't even come close to doubling his yardage.

He sure looked good throwing within Leach’s scheme.  Lots of slants and outs on target.  I saw three TDs up the middle to wide open WRs.

Play calling makes a difference. As does having players who can make those plays.

But, yea, the QB did complete 71% of passes. Even if they were mostly short throws.
