5 Thoughts Following the Loss to Oklahoma State

I woke up this morning still reeling from yesterday’s debacle, then I realized it is my 29th wedding anniversary.  Since I want to see a 30th Anniversary I decided to put yesterday behind me and enjoy today. Hope y’all can all do the same. HookEm!!  We’ll get em next week.
Happy Anniversary!!! HOOK EM!!! \\m//

I'm really embarrassed by many of the upperclassmen on this team.

Boyd, Davis, and LJH all got suspended for something that shouldn't be an issue for any players at any level, much less 2 seniors and a junior. Boyd and Davis looked pretty bad again tonight, as Boyd continued his "Jekyll and Hyde" impression. Boyd misplayed several balls, including one that should've been an INT but went through his fingertips for a TD. I couldn't help but laugh when Herbstreit (or maybe Fowler) said he's a late 1st to early 2nd round guy.

When LJH came in, he dropped what should've been a ~70-yard TD on a great throw by Sam. Seeing him flagged for a false start because he was loafing back to the line at the end of the first half had my blood boiling. If that's the kind of attitude he's going to have after being suspended, then maybe they should have left him in Austin for this game.

Beyond the 3 stragglers, Hager's showing at the end of the game was embarrassing. Where was that fire earlier in the game? Maybe instead of getting pissed off about it, you should try wrapping up in the backfield. He should lose his captain designation, in my opinion. PJ Locke looked totally lost and overmatched, as always. Brandon Jones continued his struggles with basic geometry, as he takes some of the worst angles of anyone on the team. Jones also had an absolutely terrible punt return decision that very much contributed to OSU being able to put the game away.

Out of those 6 guys I mentioned, 4 are seniors, and 2 are juniors. That just can't happen.

On the subject of special teams, I seriously have to wonder if Tom Herman just doesn't care about special teams. This stuff is a problem week after week and doesn't get fixed. Punt blocking has been atrocious all year. D'Shawn Jamison has muffed several punts and somehow doesn't have the football IQ to know when to return the ball or when not to. Multiple players have fair caught the ball inside their own 5 on punts. And now Brandon Jones gets in on the action with his Daje Johnson/D'Shawn Jamison impression by running a punt backwards into his own endzone with his team down by 3 and needing a score.

Anyway, this game was just another example of how undisciplined Texas is. This is an extremely unfocused, undisciplined football team that isn't ready for a top 10 ranking. Oklahoma State was clearly the better team tonight.
Well said, agree on all points.  The Jones lack of geometry made me both cringe and laugh, but on point.  He slowed down and watched that late first half TD catch happen.  Boyd should have defended that as well, but watching Jones half ass that play makes me sick.

Happy Anniversary, man. I’m trying to get where you are one day!

We've been giving opponents early leads and late chances all year and somehow coming out with wins. You can't sustain that. But the lesson was never learned. Hopefully we'll learn it now.

College football scores, winners & losers in Week 9: Oklahoma back in control of Big 12

Winners

Oklahoma: The Sooners handled Kansas State 51-14, but that's not why they're big winners. That would be because Texas lost to Oklahoma State 38-35. Now, every Big 12 team has a loss heading into November. Of all the teams still realistically in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game race, Oklahoma is easily playing the best. Chances are, it'll be in Arlington come the first weekend of December. It's the rest of the top half of the Big 12 standings that's a little tougher to decipher. Know this, though: there are a lot of crossover games involving Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia, Iowa State and Texas Tech in the next four weeks.

Losers

Texas (the state): Yes, the Longhorns' loss to Oklahoma State was rough, but at least they weren't the only Texas team to have a rough day. Texas A&M made Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald look like a great passer again in a 28-13 loss. TCU fumbled (again, via buttocks) the game away against Kansas. Texas Tech dropped a road game at Iowa State 40-31. The state's power teams had an awful time in Week 9, leaving room for the best team at the moment to be ... Houston?

Texas looked fatigued this whole game and had no intensity.  Johnson was man handled by the cornerback who covered him and pretty much seem to accept it. The Coaches were out coached and the players had bought into the hype that they were a top 10 football team.

Whether it mattered or not doesn't answer why Gundy wasn't flagged for doing what Herman did before Herman did it.
Gundy was trying to get his players away from the skirmish. TH got confused and thought Gundy was throwing haymakers or something. Not one of TH's better moments.

The team has turned a corner but just like Hagar at the end, and Herman to an extent,They need some “seasoning”

Sometimes success is harder to handle than failure for a young team.

If Herman was trying to protect his players, good for him. I mean after all he is a man!  ;)

Coaches get a sideline warning for being in the white on the sidelines. Gundy went on the field first, was almost in the middle and nothing. Herman goes out there, with the belief he needs to protect his players and draws a penalty. Granted it didn't or wouldn't change the outcome but either both should have been a penalty or neither should have.

My thoughts . . .

. . .  We might as well just give the other teams 7 points at kick off. Its going to happen anyway, one of the surest bets in all of college football right now.

. . . . I'm disappointed in Colin Johnson. Can't remember the CB who covered him but Johnson made him all-conference last night. Completely gave up trying to get open. No fight. smh.

. . . We can stop the "Keep Orlando" talk. If he's hired away after that shit show of a defense, I wanna know why.

. . . While we're at it, go ahead and give up the open week, too. We don't know how to take advantage of one anyway.

. . . How stupid can you be, Hager? That was just stupid, petty and pitiful. Grow up and learn how to lose with class.

. . . Penalties, smh. They killed us. Where is the discipline?

. . . We might want to think about tackling the opposing team's QB at some point. OSU recognized that we were just going to give him what he wanted and used it as much as they could.

. . . After two weeks off, why did we look so tired and fatigued?

I think you've got it wrong. Herman wasn't out there to protect jack. He was cursing Gundy and making a fool of himself. Watch the replay, you can read Herman's lips.

That wasn't what Gundy was doing.

I am sick of the white collar high class society that everyone demands. If you have played football in the last 15 years than you know that football isn’t a country club atmosphere. I’m not condoning a band of thugs but everyone needs to redefine their definition.

The fact that Herman ran onto the field to show his balls at least makes me have respect that he is not a layover. Especially since he showed up to game day with his pants down.

That works for me when there's a reason to expose one's cajones. But Herman didn't have a reason. He had a mistaken perception that had to end with him apologizing to the coach he was cussing out.

The whole thing started because with one play left, Hager decided to give it his all. smh. If I'm Herman, I go onto the field and grab Hager back to the bench. That would have been my reason for going onto the field.

The many years of watching Texas football I do not remember seeing a worse defense. DBS poor angles on the player. Playing with a 10 to 15 yard cushion on the coaches..

IMO only #90 and LB Johnson played a decent game. Whole Offense except RB might have stayed home. And IMO  3 startersbeing out did not mater. And as far as Hager

looks like he might forget his hair cut. There  is at least one more loss coming up. My big mistake was watching Houston play and saw what an Off. Cord. and a QB could do on a football game.

At Texas we LOVE our DCs.... but you brought it up.

Our defense has been a small to considerable disappointment this year.  TH kind of called out the defense after the game.  And if you look at the players we are losing, the D might actually take another step back next year.

Remember, after year 1 we thought Bedford hung the moon and were afraid he would take a HC job....

I still like Orlando, but I think “dissapoonting” (based on expectations after last season) is an adequate description.

Johnson was manhandled by AJ Green? Hmm...I didn’t quite see it that way. And I’m really Trying hard not to be a homer. So i’ll Just say the I wish the games were officiated right down the middle. Hopefully that won’t offend the “good teams win despite bad/non-calls” crowd.
