2025 Baseball thread

We have had 10 hit the portal:
Outfielders: Donovan Jordan (fr), Matt Scott II ( fr), Tommy Farmer (soph)
Infielders & catchers: Oliver Service (soph), Carson Luna (fr)
Pitchers: Ace Whitehead (redshirt senior), Easton Tumis ( redshirt soph)

Others to watch for:
Gasparino, J. Duplantier, Blake Peterson.

I believe that of the 10 in the portal, at either all or 9 of the 10 were Pierce guys. Outside of Whitehead; Farmer probably played the most games this yr. Scott was at least used in maybe 5 games this past season. Service maybe 5 games this yr? If that and think I mig ht have heard Tumis pitched in a game or 2 last yr? He didn't see any action this yr that I recall.

I would fully expect this staff to be busy the next few weeks for portal guys. Along with getting the next yr HS class going to be built. The good thing about the HS kids, is that the staff will set-up visits with home football games like they did last yr.

So far, we have had only 1 visitor and that was Josh Livingston and he committed. He will be a senior next yr.

The staff will be busy trying to get some of the top portal guys to visit and hopefully commit. Plus keep the incoming HS class as intact as possible.

The MLB draft is in like a month.

BTW, the Virginia kids might be following their HC to Mississippi State.

Ten gone and none in? That's not good.

Perhaps, not as bad as it seems.

With a new coach, some might have thought they would get a chance to play and after a better season that expected, see the writing on the wall. If they want to see significant playing time, they stand a better chance at another school. I think that's just the way it's going to be for now on especially if the coach who recruited you is gone.

Oops, I forgot 1 player that had already hit the portal and today another has hit the portal:

Infielders: Sam Richardson ( 3rd baseman, fr), today we add Jaquae Stewart ( 1st baseman, soph)

Richardson was probably a little bit of a surprise as he was on the post season roster, but didn't play as far as i remember. Stewart just didn't look comfortable at the plate and really didn't get much playing time in the field that I can recall.

Per an interview or press conference, Schloss did do exit interviews with the players after the season was over.

We should have 6 or so guys from the portal this weekend.

BTW, of the Virginia guys in the portal 4 have transferred to Miss. State.

These were mostly Pierce recruits, right?

From everything that I have heard outside of Stewart being a transfer that Schloss brought in; the rest were Pierce signees or recruits. I thoughr that the 1st pitcher the Chase Covert was one that might have followed Schloss, but that is not the case.

Oops. Knew I was missing one pitcher: Chase Covert II (fr) also in the portal.

There were 2 pitchers thst did follow Schloss and Weiner from the aggie class to Texas:
Drew Redrick and Bryce Navarre. Not certain who else followed them here.

We do have something like 19 HS recruits that we are hopeful to make it in.

I've heard that both the guys that SHA posted above me are guys that almost any and every team would like. But only a few are getting visits. We are the main team they seem to really like, but if a team wants to break the bank for them go for it.

Was also told that the team is was really wanting Sam Richardson to stay out of the group that has hit the portal as he was the #3 baseman is the class and would allow A Rod to be at shortstop.

One of the big names that left Virginia that was thought to follow the HC to Miss. State doesn't seem to be the case same with an OF from there that may or may not have visited us over the weekend in Henry Ford. But we do have 2-3 outfielders that are expected to make it in as true freshmen.

The staff is trying to have talks with the juniors and if they aren't drafted in the top 9 rounds of the MLB draft either the team has to go over 150k or hope the kid is tired of college. IMO, still don't believe Flores or Galvan will be here next yr; however, how do team view both will be interesting.

One other item of note, the staff has looked at a few names, but after talking to them and someone talking to their agents, these are most likely not going to visit to use Texas to get a bigger NIL deal from another school.

Both Volantis and A Rod landed on the perfect game freshmen All-Americans.

Volantis named NCBWA national freshmen pitcher of the year.

There is some other awards I'll get to shortly. But this is on Texassports.com

Just a few more notes on Mr. Volantis, he is the 2nd Longhorn pitcher to win the NCBWA freshmen pitcher of the year with Corey Knebel in 2011. He led all freshmen i WHIP (0.88), 12 saves overall, 2nd in ERA with 1.94. He broke a 22 yr. old SEC record with 11 conference saves.

Mr. Volantis is also up for both National Pitcher of the year and Stopper of the year.

Both Galvan and Volantis are on 1st team ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team of the NCAA Div. 1 Central region.

On the 2nd team ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. 1 central region are Ethan Mendoza and Luke Harrison.

The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. 1 All-American team to be announced on Friday.

Also, for those interested in the CWS. It starts Friday afternoon with Costal Carolina vs. Arizona in the 1PM time slot and the Louisville vs. Oregon State Friday evening.
With Murray State vs. UCLA on Saturday afternoon and LSU vs arkie Saturday night.

I think I'm jumping on the Murray State bandwagon.

I hadn't looked at the CWS until last night. Got to wonder what the SEC commissioner is thinking with getting 13 in and only 2 making it to the CWS. Plus they have to face each other. So, if lucky only 1 makes it to the finals. But that would ruined the Murray State run. The other side has Oregon State and Costal Carolina in it. Just need Arizona to go away so the idiot B12 commissioner can't say anything. Weird that the top 2 conferences only ends up with 3 teams in the CWS. Best to get hot in the regionals and super regionals sometimes.
