I know you follow recruiting way more than I do (which is just what I read on here) but is he a LB we really want (just a 3 star) or would he being adding some depth?
I get what you're saying, but I would think if the staff is willing to use a scholarship and not keep it for the portal then he may be underrated. I would personally want to keep a spot for the portal, but that's why I'm typing on this site and not making that decision.

At least you're honest and I can respect that!

He's way underrated. His film is awesome. Staff sees a player in Smith. That's why he was one of the earliest targets in this recruiting year.

But we wanted him badly. Obviously, we still do.

DCTF list him at #18 second LB in Texas. 24/7 # 102 sixth LB in Texas.

Interesting top 4 LBS went out of state.

Same but Ewers has been good. He seems a little slow to read and hesitant at times, a couple of those sacks Saturday were on him. Some of the shorter passes he throws pretty bad at times as well. When you look at his stats though sometimes I wonder why I am so picky because he has done very well. Guess I just expected him to come in light it up and never miss a pass :ROFLMAO: . In the end you cant argue with the results, 10-1 soon to be 12-1 at minimum
I'm with you. But I will stand my ground - last year he really hurt us in several games. I was consistently dumbfounded that people didn't seem to notice. But he is a really good QB this year, as a sophomore. Really, really good. He has an NFL arm, rarely throws interceptions, and has now led the team on a hand full of clutch drives. He's also got a tool-bag of throws from different arm angles that is spectacular at times. He does mix in a small bag of holding onto the ball too long, bizarre misfires, plays where he's pressured and seems to be looking for green grass on which to lay down, and running chest first into the opponent's MLB. Again, I'm spoiled. If he cleans those things up, he will be a top ten NFL draft pick after next season.

Correct me if I'm wrong.... but Texas was so happy with their LB haul last year, that they only offered 2 or 3 this year - and were okay with not taking any. He was one of the ones that had an offer.

That is correct. Ater missing Justin Williams and Tyanthony Smith initially, they kicked the tires on a few other players but ultimately never pursued. I forget the name but one player was going to come for a mid-week visit that Texas essentially cancelled.

Based on the staffs actions, they are not interested in reaching at the position.

He's easily one of the best LBs in the state. He's wanted by Alabama, LSU, Aggy, OU and just about everyone else. Watch him this weekend and if you decide you don't want him then I can't help you. Dude just makes plays.

Actually, this crop of LBs leaves a lot to be desired. UT identified who they felt could help them and turned away others who were showing interest.

The 5-star we didn't get from the Houston area has been in touch with the staff. They would take him if he'd flip. But he gave us the cold shoulder for the longest before now.

Just not a good year for LBs this year.

I admit I haven't seen him play but I'll take your word on it since the staff really wants him which is what I was asking.

BTW, fixed your errors above.

IT said today that LB Tyanthony Smith and his family do plan on heading to Austin after his playoff game in the Houston area on Friday afternoon.

Hamilton has him as 75% to Texas, and Wells says it's 65%.

IT saying this will now be rescheduled.
