2024 Recruiting Board/Thread

Really with QB’s and players in general nobody knows until they get it and see how they develop. Chris Simms was a 5 star, Colt McCoy was a 3 star so you just never know. Colt was a Texas kid that would have ran through a brick wall for the University of Texas. Simms was from New Jersey so maybe the buyin wasn’t as strong. Alot of people can see the raw talent and the tools but how are they going to react when the lights are turned on. That’s what you have to find out. In the day of the portal some aren’t going to stay around long enough to see the lights get turned on.
VY: alot of people hated on Greg Davis but I give him alot of credit by changing his offense to what would maximize VY’s talent. Alot of coaches are hung up so tight on their own offense that they might not have got as much out of VY. It started off they wanted to teach him to be a pocket type passer and when they finally went to the zone read…….the rest is history.
The good thing it seems with Sark is he is always going to be able to get good QB’s.

VY took game into his own hands most of the time. Like USC Matt "Whinehart" said VY is a freak of nature.

At this point most believe Ewers will be back next year. Obviously if he leaves this year, then YY would easily win any comparisons.

As far as Manning is concerned, sure it's not fair to make any comparisons, but it's also silly to discount his potential.

Now get a hold of yourself, and clean up that beer spew mess.
You are right VY would win the comparison but it would be apples and oranges. Let's compare careers:
Vince Young
2002 Redshirt
2003 wins job halfway thru. 1,155 yds passing 6 TDs 7 Int, 998 yds rushing
2004 12-1 loss to Oklahoma beats Ohio St Fiesta Bowl
2005 13-0 becomes legend

Quinn Ewers
2021 Redshirt
2022 wins job misses three games 2,177 yds passing 15 TDs 6 Ints
2023 Currently 9-1 with loss to Oklahoma.

If Quinn finishes the year with a New Years 6 bowl win, VY and QE are equivalent thru year 3. QE would then have the chance to become a legend as well. Needs to finish strong.

I hope Ewers proves me wrong but sorry I just dont see it. I dont believe he has it in him to take over a game completely like VY did. The best game I have seen from Ewers was Bama and that was huge but he has had some really crappy performances as well. Hopefully he comes back and and puts me in my place but I doubt it.

I trust Sark I think he has in the right direction after years of failure. Sark needs to improve some of his own stuff but he will get it done. He will develop these QBs as well. Bright future with Sark here.

Question for the board.Who is the real QB coach? If Milwee why does Sark get the credit. If Sark then why waste money and a space on staff.

Dont drink and post I guess.

My memory is not good at all and I know VY struggled his 1st year as most freshmen QBs do. I do remember him whipping Michigan's ass in the Rose bowl his Sophomore year followed by a NC against a very good USC team his Junior year. He should have won the Heisman that year.

I think Ewers is probably above average at best. We havent had a great QB since McCoy so its been a long time. Ewers has had some terrible games TBF. He is inconsistent. I am rooting for the kid though

I don't drink at all.

I don’t disagree with what you’ve written, but in the 2004 season the Horns beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Colt was a RS JR QB when we beat Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.
I sat in the stands for both of the Rose Bowl games & that Fiesta Bowl game. Fantastic games that I’ll always remember. Hook Em.

I’m not sure why people want to compare a guy who completed his career vs a guy in the middle of it with all goals still in reach and still could theoretically achieve more.

Coaching staffs were different too. Mack and Co. were fine hanging 40+ on weekly basis on any opponent while this coaching staff prefers to score 25-35.

You can also argue the coaching in the big 12 is far superior across the board to what it was in 2004-2005.

Anyways, we will see at the end of this year and possibly at the end of next year again how QE3 compares.

VY is way way way ahead by a landslide.

Per IT, CB Selman Bridges of Lake Belton reached out to the Texas staff recently to gauge their interest.

It doesn't sound serious at this point, and will depend on Texas' numbers and if they want to bring him in for a visit.

IT saying Texas is gaining momentum for S Xavier Filsaime with Florida's class looking shaky.

They expect he and his father to visit campus in the coming weeks, and continue positioning themselves well for the flip.

Thank you for getting the thread back on track.

You're right I meant Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Yes, please. 6-3 corners who can cover are rare. The numbers may not work though. Especially if the rumors about Black's brother are accurate.

Greg deserves a great deal of credit for identifying and utilizing VY's strengths. As far as I know, the zone read wasn't all that common at the time, but they perfected it with Vince and the rest is history.
I will Greg credit for letting Vince be Vince. The zone read wasn't Greg's invention. ousux destroyed us with a little midget back getting the ball on a zone read type play a few years prior. Maybe we stole it from ousux; I am good with that.

Better yet, why compare anybody to one of the greatest to ever play the game at the Collegiate level? Not fair to anybody involved.
