2024 Recruiting Board/Thread

This momentum is good but remember there’s a football season coming.
Can we stop this narrative? Everyone has a season to play and everyone has to perform in order to keep their recruiting class intact. Each team has their own set of circumstances to navigate, but having a good season is not unique to Texas in order to have a good recruiting class.

Great post BDC. Every time I log in lately, I think I’ve logged into one of the Boston Red Sox pages I follow. The pessimism of both is palpable. Lol

A few weeks back some one was concernedabout TE recruiting. We got one. I see himas a project type, needs weight and maybe blocking skills.

Then TEs are a little hard to find The usual place is midwest states, then Georgia might have more than any other state. Then these stay home.

It has been several years since recruiting has been a problem.

Had several great classes and somegood seasons(win, loss).
Very true East. The biggest issue (imo) the last 10 plus years has been development. This staff seems a little more adept at that than the previous two. Hopefully it will continue and translate into more long term success on the field.

I don't see him as a project. He will get developed and I think it will be relatively fast. He has the basic intangibles that you look for. But there's no hurry to get him on the field, thankfully.

Where did David Thomas come from? Ohio? Indiana? lol

I posed a question asking if TE has been the position with the worst recruiting results so far. I still think the answer is a resounding yes.

That said, I already shared my thoughts on Washington and I agree with SHA, he'll very quickly be ready as a pass catching TE and depending on his development over the next 12 months he may be ready to be an inline blocker. I think there is a lot of meat on the bone with him and he could turn into a stud.

Thomas was better but when I think of Texas TEs D. Lewis comes to mind. or Fitzgerald.

I think so as well.

No aurgement on Thomas. Lewis proably made the greatesr TE reception in Texas's history.
Don't confuse greatest with most memorable. D Thomas saved VY with 2-3 very athletic catches during the Rose Bowl.

I'm a bit partial to DT as my oldest brother went to HS with his parents and my dad coached DT's dad in LL baseball.

What you can’t teach are the intangibles. A coach can teach blocking. He already has nice soft hands, yes?

Bricks for hands, speed, size?  Those things are a little more challenging, but whatdaIknow?  Imagirl.

Hook ‘em!

I thought the biggest issue the last 10 years, at least for 5 or so years, was injury. Remember, we recruited some great TE, then freak accidents.

Aside from David Thomas, who really was a great TE, we had Bo Scaife, who was good, as well.  He had to have knee surgery before he came, and tore up his other knee in 2 a days, if my memory is correct.
