2024 Baseball Season Thread

The MLB draft is starting a week from Monday going thru Wednesday.

The following needs to be watched:
LBJ
A. Duplantier
HS:
LHP: Flipped to Texas, Bryce Navarre
Jason Flores two way player
Bryce Rainer two way player
Levi Sterling two way player

We did puck up a very nice player in 2nd baseman Ethan Mendoza on Saturday

Still waiting on
Jalin Flores
Casey Borba
And Nik Sanders

This is on Horns247 free board.

Have heard that we flipped at least 1 maybe more HS recruits from aggy to Horns.
Just haven't seen who though.
Did see where David Shaw has hit the portal.

The MLB draft is a week away, so we should know more about the possible returners and the HS recruits coming here. They have a month to decide on the offer or returning.

Unless an MLB team offers 1st round type money, there’s a pretty good chance that Flores is back at Texas.

Regarding portal and recruiting, don’t sell this staff short. It is possibly the absolute strongest staff in collegiate baseball right now. A&M staff has 3 guys, including their HC, that have a combined 2 years among them of being a paid coaching staff member, with zero yrs as a HC. Also, the former UW HC was not lighting the world on fire in Seattle and was rumored to be on his final year at UW.

Finally, this UT staff is putting together a very nice squad for the upcoming season. Still a few holes to piece together but should know quite a bit more after the draft.

The aggy I work with seems to think the pitching coach (UW coach) was a homerun hire.
Schlossnagle is a Chris Beard type hire, hopefully without the baggage.

Well, he’s an aggy, so there’s that as it pertains to thought process.

And a P5 HC with ~20 yrs of pitching coach, asst coach and HC experience moving somewhere to be the pitching coach? That seems to me more like a demotion than Homerun hire. Kelly is a good pitching coach, but after being a HC at a P5 school, I have a hard time believing he took the job at A&M because less money, less responsibility and a flickering spotlight was calling him to College Station.

I didn't say I was impressed. The aggy I work with was. I was actually trying to agree with you, because aggys are delusional.

Sorry but your Aggy coworker is a moron. He’s just enamored that UW actually won the series in Austin and is missing the fact that guy was about to get fired

Schloss is shopping for pitchers like I've never seen. CJ Vogel compared this to Flood's campaign when he arrived in Austin and evaluated the OL on campus.
