2024 Baseball Season Thread

Mods on pay sites who cover baseball are of the belief he won't be back. This is a recent change in their tone..

No way the Big 3 allow Texas baseball to limp into the SEC. IMO Pierce is done.
To me, it may be off field issues that lead to him being done this season. I know this season has been frustrating thus far but I don't believe it's enough for him to be canned.

It took a while but the light bulb came on for Pierce's fans
Don’t take my silence as that. I still believe this years team will improve and make a run. If I am proven wrong it is definitely not going to be mid season. I just chose not to continue to argue against your agenda…

Time will tell.

Horns manage just 2 hits in a 9-1 loss at Houston
16 strike outs. Pitching was pretty inconsistent throughout the game.

That is the type of loss that will make me side with those who think Pierce is done. 2 more games this weekend to have better showing.

Any one else think Horns are trying for HR's too much. There hasbeen high strike out rate at cruical times thisyear. Also swinging at 3-0 pitches with ducks on the pond.

That’s usually a bad decision by the head coach. Or the third base coach. Or one and the same.

I first started scrutinizing Pierce as a head coach during his third season. What immediately jumped out at me was he was the worst third base coach I have ever seen. And still is. Many dumbass moves with the base runners.
I have wanted him gone ever since.

I hope Joeywa doesn’t read this. I’m sure he can remember some of the banter we had.

I was at game it wasn’t good at all. Seems team is regressing as season goes on.

Horns win 6-5. Kennedy hit 2 HRs including the game winner in the top of the 9th. I noticed Brown didn’t play LF or in the game at all.

Just watched tonight’s game. Texas wins 6~5, not a dominating win but a win. Tomorrows game is in my mind a must win to stay in conference race.

Prayers that Joeywa is doing well.

Important bounce back win tonight. That is the one thing this team has been pretty good at so far this year. We've lost so many Friday night games only to go on and win the series.

It is clear that Pierce is still making major lineup and pitching changes to try and get the right combo of players who can and will get it done out there. Not what you want to be doing at this point in a season.

Texas wins series taking today’s game 13~8. This is one of the few games I didn’t watch or go to.
Several thoughts, Starting Pitching that I thought was coming together really struggling. Looks like LBJ had another bad outing, Grubbs and Ace struggled some on Friday or Saturday.
This team needs starting pitching to turn a corner soon, that plus the hitting could carry this team. Time to step it up, despite all the issues team is 9~6 and 4th in conference.
Right now no way this team host a regional, need to string together some wins.

For those that didn't watch or follow - Texas looked lifeless in this game. Pitching was so so, hitting was pretty weak aside from a Galvan 2 run HR in the 3rd. Texas down 7-2 entering the 7th. They scored 1 and 2 runs in the 7th/8th and gave back 1 run in the bottom 8th. 8-5 entering the 9th.

They then exploded for 8 runs in the 9th inning, including 3HRs.

A loss today would have really set this team back and it was looking dire. They kept fighting and won their 3rd conference series after dropping the Friday game.

Belive mid season is over. Team played 37 games with 18 left to play. Still room to get a win streak goingbut window is closing fast. Maybe next year, then some ofus willnotbe around.

Longhorn baseball has always been about great pitching. This is the worst pitching staff in at least 25 years. Our 4.80 ERA is the highest since at least 1999 which is as far back as I looked. Not only is it the highest ERA, it is the highest by a lot. Only other year over 4.30 was in 2008 at 4.48.

Now why is that happening? Pierce is the pitching coach. He fired Sean Allen who was great here in my opinion and then immediately fired Woody Williams after a bad pitching year last year. Pierce is the only one to blame for the lack of developing arms.

LBJ regressed. Hurley regressed. Witt and Harrison hasn't bounced back from injury. Relied on Howard a lot and he has been rough to watch. Not one dominant arm on the team. Not sure any of these guys would pitch much on that 2021 World Series team.
