No more transfers! Just develop the roster and coach up the talent we already have
I hear what you are saying, you definitely don't want to be bringing in a lot of one and done players. That may allow for a lot of quick solutions but cause more long term problems.
BUT....one thing I notice that Texas seems to be doing, taking transfers with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
2023 tranfers
Gavin Holmes - 2 yrs remain
Jalan Catalon - 2-3 yrs remain (depending on injury redshirt)
Adonai Mitchell - 3 yrs remain
2022 transfers
Quinn Ewers - 4 yrs remaining
Ryan Watts - 4 yrs remaining
Jahleel Billingsley - 3 yrs remaining
Isaiah Neyor - 3 years remaining
Agiye Hall - 4 years remaining
Tarique Milton - 1 year remaining (redshirt remained as well)
Diamonte-Tucker Dorsey - 1 year remaining
So in his two transfer classes they have brought in
10 players with an
average of 2.8 years of eligibility remaining. The number of incoming transfers is pretty low and the avg years remaining is 1 short of a high school recruit. I think this is a great way to use the portal.
I also embrace 1 year players coming in when they fit a need but a sign of a healthy roster will be not needing to rely on many of these types of transfers.
