2023 Recruiting Board/Thread

Akana told the staff and his sister that if the women won the bball championships (they did) he’d commit to Texas.
So we have to wait until March to see if the bball wins it all?  I don't like those odds.  I'm kidding.

I'm guessing tomorrow will be a quiet day with everything set to come out on Wednesday.

Seeing as Spencer played SDE (which is the equivalent to the Jack EDGE postion in P.K.'s defense) in High School & was being recruited by UT as a DT and that Akana is being recruited by UT as a Buck EDGE & off-ball LB by OU. I don't see how how u can say Akana is a definitive upgrade over Spencer when they played & project to completely different positions.

If I had to choose between Spencer or Akana, I'd choose Spencer because of his size & frame. Meanwhile they're questions about Akana's size which is why OU is recruiting him at off-ball LB instead of at EDGE.
Because at 240 lbs, lets face it, he's not playing DT. He was a DE who would have spinned down to a DT after a year or so in the program.

Spencer has the same problem you claim Akana has.

I would imagine PK will put Akana where he thinks he'll do best. But he's the kind of player I'd just bring aboard and figure the rest out once he's here.

Spencer’s exodus leaves Sydir Mitchell as the only interior DL in this class.

With Sweat & Collins being seniors and Murphy & Broughton being juniors - it seems like a “position of need” even if not immediate need.

Question - are there any interior DL we are still in on for the 2023 class?  It might we go after a promising (young) IDL in the portal?

Did something happen to Jaray Bledsoe 6’4 270 and Kristopher Ross 6’3 280?

They passed on Benton and from all aspects looks like they were ok with Spencer walking away. They must have something up their sleeve either with an unknown prospect or a portal candidate.

Spencer is 40 to 60 lbs away from being a DT while Akana is 15 lbs from a prototype Edge rusher.

My only reservation with Akana is him having the same haircut as Lloyd.

Not only that but she served the winning ace!

I wasn't trying to imply that the four interior defensive linemen I mentioned are the only four on our roster.  The point was that we're soon losing our top 4 interior DL.

Is the point of your response that depth and talent are fine there, and just bringing in one is a non-issue?  I'd like to know if that is the case because it would answer the question that I actually posed.

Spencer is 240 lbs. He's not an interior DL at this point. They had hoped he would grow into an interior role.

We're getting Sydir Mitchell, who will likely see some PT his first year.
