I didn't see any of the UA game nor any practices, but I hear Finkley did extremely well this week.  Also heard great reviews on Banks, Neto Allen and Campbell.  Finkley has to get bumped up in the final rankings.  Great senior season and showed out in the UA game.  Maybe not 5* bump, but still should make a final move up into the top 100 at the very least.

SHA, does your wife believe that facts and reality are in the eyes of the beholder?

I knew a brilliant UT grad who was deeply into statistics. He could blind anyone with them and have them begging for more.

Then he would say privately that if someone was good enough with statistics, they could make them read almost anyway they chose, which is very true.

I was just watching The Season, 1969, for at least the 5th time.  That team was amazing.  I knew many of those guys, though I didn’t begin my Freshman year until the Fall of 1970.  Many were there for a time, some came back in the Spring to work on their degrees, some dated friends of mine, etc.

They had confidence, pride, and absolute faith in each other.  It was such a good feeling to wake up on Saturday morning and know, with certainty, that we were going to win.  It was great, when we were down, to know that we were coming back to win the game.  It wasn’t an illusion, it was a FACT.

Those are the facts as I knew them.  Those were the facts in 2005.  We came pretty close in 2008 and 2009.  I want those to be the facts again, and soon.  I happen to believe they will be.

I have posted this before, but your post made methink of it again, so I say it again...

After the '69 season, UT had to revamp how they awarder letters to players. before it had been....if one played a certain amount of minutes in a season, they got lettered. After the '69 season it was discovered that many of the starters had not played enough minutes to get awarded. In those days DKR ran those guys out there and usually they scored TD's on the firsy 4 possessions....Then the second string came in and usually kept right on going.

The benefit of this was fewer starter injuries....and game time experience for the backups. Mack Brown never grasped this concept.

To me there is no reason not to have a sacond team today. Let them sub as a unit when games are won are maybe before.

Back to the 2022 recruiting front, it seems like Texas is all but done with this class.  Devon Campbell and Larry Turner-Gooden (LTG) seem to be the final pieces on 2022 HS recruiting.

Kevin Coleman - Don't see him picking Texas and is bound for the state of Florida (Miami, FSU or UF)

Earnest Greene - All UGA it seems

Josh Connerly - No idea, could be a surprise take, but my money is on Michigan, Wash or Oregon

Jacoby Mathews - No idea where he will end up.  Could be A&M, could be Florida, hell it could be Jackson State.  However, I don't think Texas is in the mix.

Devon Campbell - all signs seem to be pointing to Texas.  Crossing my fingers on this one.

LTG - At one point I had him penciled in as 100% Texas.  Now I'm not so sure, but the % is still high.

Am I missing anyone?
Coleman, Greene, and Matthews are not coming to Texas. Matthews I hear will pick LSU.

Campbell is in and LTG will likely pick Texas. Its between UT, Colorado and Slippery Rock or some such.

Of course, NTG chooses the the nerd option.
I'm going with it being more of "deep thinker" option ?

And, actually, I did not get the quote exactly right. Here is the actual quote from Simon Sinek, a British-born author and motivational speaker and author of five books including Start With Why.

"People who wonder if the glass is half-empty or half-full miss the point. The glass is refillable."

I’m not trying to be the contrarian, but how do we know this?  Has there been an internal leak?

I saw Campbell’s “final 2 tweet” and it had two photos of him in Texas gear and one in OU.  It made me wonder if this could be the greatest misdirection of all time?

 It has always been Texas

It has been leaked by Orangebloods and IT. Even Suchomel “accidentally” called him a signee last week. You can also tell by the lack of buzz on OU sites. Whether it was Campbell or the coaches that leaked it, the word is pretty much out.

Also his school jerseys and colors are almost identical to Texas. That is what you saw thinking it was a UT Jersey. Just a hs jersey

On that glass half empty/full bit....Ole Willy on Willy and Ethyl said it depended on whether you were half drunk or half sober....

lol, you're not married, are you? lol

I think what Java said was dead-on. Not necessarily in a factual way, but still a literal way. She is an alum who knows what Texas football is supposed to be. She lived it. Unlike some, she thinks the last 10 years of shittiness is a temporary thing. She's just a glass half-full person when it comes to UT. I applaud that.
You'll have to explain what my marital status has to do with it.  Are you're trying to imply that I should have known her statement was done in sarcasm?  To which I say, sarcasm, tone, inflection is not convey through text alone.  It should be accompanied by caps, emojis, bold, etc.  Even an "lol" would suffice.

What part was dead on?  She made several statements.  And I refuted several.

I think we all want what's best for UT football.  Otherwise, why waste our time here.

Rotty, I said “because I said so” with a grin on my face, because we were told that as kids, in ‘that’ voice.

I don’t think Herman had the good sense to keep rotten apples out of the bunch. In fact, I’m not certain he had any sense at all.

This season I believe Sark had to play the cards he was dealt.  Now he has gotten to know the players, and is continuing to build his vision.  Some of the former players fit and some don’t.  If they don’t like the message or don’t want to put in the effort, the portal is right there.

Yes, you've explained that you made the statement sarcastically.  Your OP is understood.  The issue now is others are starting to jump in.  So I'm choosing to respond to them.

Yes, I think you, I and Java all want what's best for UT football. But Java spoke not to facts, but to how its supposed to be. Gentlemen should open doors for ladies, IMO. But you don't see that happening much these days.

Those days, these days.

In reference to your marital status, I was appealing to lessons men learn via their wives about telling them they're wrong. lol Sometimes, you might be better off keeping your facts on hold, for those moments.

Yes, she certainly does. I have won some debates with her and ended up wishing I hadn't because in a way, her point was right. Thats why I could relate to the post you made.

I truly enjoyed reading this post. You took me back.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who is talking), college football now has parity. The sport grew, more kids played, technology entered the equation, etc. We no longer beat Utah 66-3 in a non-conference game. Utah and many other programs have grown to a more equal platform.

The 2005 team was just better than everybody else. A once-in-a-lifetime combination of players who were not only great, but played well as a team. We had stars and we had role players, and everybody did their thing and it worked.

The 2005 team rose above the crowd, which is what Alabama has done and sustained it.

I hope we can achieve that level once again, soon.
What parity in college football?  Do you mean Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Clemson are at parity and then the rest of college football is at parity?

An 8-4 aggy team with no offense beat Bama a few weeks back. Clemson was pretty average this year. Ohio State started their season with a loss and didn't win their division or conference.

Yes, there are WAY more teams today that are good than there were back when Java went to school, which was the point.
