One thing I think Bill did is use the juco route to interject talent quicker. He knew, I think, that he wasn’t going to be able to strictly recruit high kids and be able to turn it around that way.Bill was special. Somehow starting from scratch, he became a hall of fame coach recruiting players to play football in Manhattan Kansas, right next to Dorothy's house near Bumf**k Egypt. Please don't try to convince me how hard recruiting at UT in Austin is.

"Kansas State had a cumulative record of 299–510 (.370) in 93 years of play, which was easily the most losses of any team in Division I-A at the time. The school had been to only one bowl game (the 1982 Independence Bowl), had not won a conference title since 1934 and had enjoyed four winning seasons in the previous 44 years (including two in the previous 34 years). The program had also not won a game since October 26, 1986, going 0–26–1 in that time.
During the 1998 season, Kansas State posted an undefeated 11–0 regular season and earned its first number 1 ranking in the national polls, just ten years after being named the worst program in the country by Sports Illustrated
Hall of Fame football coach Barry Switzer once stated, "He's not the coach of the year, he's not the coach of the decade, he's the coach of the century."[12]"
We’re seeing teams use the portal now to get better faster. Pittman has done that at Arkansas. Hardly won any games the last couple of years but then manhandle Texas and Texas A&M. They’ve leveled off a little bit but he’s made them way better….. especially across both lines of scrimmage. There are other teams that have done this as well but they came to mind. They’re paying these staffs so much money nowadays that the administrations want to see improvement quickly. If you aren’t moving forward, you’re getting passed.
Let’s Go Beat Baylor ????
