2020 Recruiting Board/Thread

The Longhorn fans are a cynical bunch.  All other fanbases are optimistic that everyone is signing with them, but we always look for reasons why recruits will not.

I  don't think we're cynical as a fan base. Some are just cautiously optimistic. Take your time,  don't rush to that waterhole, it could be a mirage. Ten years of wandering in the desert will do that to you.

Just wait till a few commits start dropping, you'll see "We getting errrrrbody!"

Fair enough and you're probably right.  I find myself doing it as well.  I sit with a Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Bama alum at work and all I hear is everybody is coming to them.  I find myself saying, I'll just wait until the actual signing day before I'm excited.

After that 2010 championship game Mack pretty much shut it down but he stayed for years after that and we were about a.500 team which should never happen at Texas. Then here comes Patterson and Charlie Strong so another several years of below average football and keep him on and people crying that we didn’t give him a chance.

Now Hernan walks into a mess.....not for sure he realized how bad of a mess. Now CDC is hired.......HUGE HIRE. Upgrades the facilities that had fallen behind and many other changes for the better.

All that to say I think we’re on the right track. These kids coming out of high were 7 or 8 years old the last time we looked good in football. We have to recruit nationally to stay with the top teams in the country because Texas kids go all over the country nowadays, so no one team is going to pull in enough Texas kids to beat the Alabama and Clemson’s of the world. Just look at the top teams recruiting classes every year and you’ll see.

I think we’ll get there Boys and Girls. We’re getting closer. Or if not I’ll damn sure be fooled again.

Bring on La Tech

That's one of the saddest things I've heard in a while. You are always so positive. Amazing. Hats off to you my friend. Hang in there.  "Illegitimi non carborundum."

There are several factors working that has this class puttering down the recruiting trail.

Herman and his staff's slow evaluation process.

I hate to say it but the presence of Jimbo Fisher at A&M.

10 years of mediocrity.

All of the negative recruiting going on by everybody and their brother. They all know what a juggernaut Texas can become and they are all talking shit about Texas to recruits to stall the inevitable.

Why is Herman and staff evaluation process so slow? I thought I heard Herman say last year that they were too slow and got to far behind on some recruits to catch up and that they were really going to take a look at that and make changes if appropriate. That have a good amount of analysis now so that shouldn’t be it. I’m just wondering why so slow. We finished #3 in recruiting last year, so I’m by no means bitching.....just wondering out loud.

It has been, but this year was much better in terms of identifying who they wanted and beginning relationships with those.

I think sometimes we get slow evaluation mixed up with slow playing a recruit due to other more preferred targets. See Quentin Johnston this year. Normally, Johnston is a automatic take, but this year when that began there were already much higher rated targets being recruited by UT.

I am somewhat concerned about the low number in our class. That needs to change soon.

This. It's what I probably should have said. But then it flies in the face of what Herman said about every offer being commitable.

"just hold off for now, enjoy the process, there's plenty of time" doesn't mean its not commitable. And thats how he did it. Had Johnston said "no really, I'm done. I wanna come to Texas," then I think Herman would have taken him right then.

I hope you’re right.
