2019 Recruiting Board/Thread

OU is understandable. Bad as I hate to say it. But they are def proven on the field. A&M, no idea. This is hands down the biggest year for Texas football program
Lincoln Riley is a very formidable recruiter. IMO, he's better than Fisher and perhaps Herman. He just has that whole armpit Oklahoma thing working against him.

Aggy is enjoying the momentum of the Fisher hire. He made a name for himself at FSU and some naive folks out there think thats going to immediately translate at aggy.

IMO, the best chance aggy had at competing in the SEC was when their offense played like a Big 12 team (Manziel). Fisher brings his pro set and slows down the tempo. With a young, not so talented QB (whoever they decide wins the job), its a stretch to get too hyped about whats coming down the road this season.

This is my take as well. Well said.
Thinking rational here, UT probably has 10 spots remainimg.  I figure the breakdown is like this:

5 OL/DL (any combination)

1 LB (Gbenda. See Ath below for additional LB)

1 RB (2 if you get the right ones. 1 if not, go all in for Evan's next year)

1 NB (Catalon)

1 S (Cine)

1 Ath or WR (you reserve one back for either McCoy or Wilson now. McCoy probably chooses USC over you, but he could fill the LB need later)

Gotta get selective now. Wright seemed to be on the outside in my opinion.

Honestly, I figured Higgins would end up at Florida and Wright at Texas.

They absolutely wanted Wright and would have took him in a heart beat. He was not on the outside of anything.

Correct, Wright was supposed to be a WR commit and in this class. Staff loves his game and potential.

Texbound, I see another WR, probably 1 DT and 2 OG/C types, 2 LBs, 2 RBs, and a couple athlete spots. We have 25 spots, possibly one more in this class.

In the position Texas is in . . of course you keep plugging along with recruiting . . . but we all agree and I'm sure the staff sees the same – Texas needs to play some snaps and beat some people up. That will start happening soon. I'd imagine after we beat the hell out of OU, the Horns will become a much hotter commodity in the recruiting game.

The point is – our optimum time is still yet to come.

it's going to be interesting to how kyler murray fairs after a couple of years off.  does he still have it?  he'll have a talented OL and other skill players to lean on.  i'm sure the 3 allen high players got an earful from him about ou.  i'll get to see them 3 times this year as they play plano schools.

also, this will be the first season (in the last 2) that we don't have a true freshman taking snaps at QB on a regular basis.  i'm ready for it to start.

When did he "have it" in college. He was awful at A&M, but he was a true freshman so I don't put much stock in that one way or another. I don't think he's above 5'8" and 170 lbs. In HS he was so much faster than his peers it's hard to know how that translates to this level. It will help no doubt, but you still have to be able to throw the ball. I don't think there's any guarantee he's the starter by the time we play them. It's impossible to know at this point.

I see it as same type of QB we played vs KSU this last year. Can’t remeber his name now. Texas has proven they can stop a mobile QB. Sooner will be relying heavily on the Run game (and they have badass backs) but Texas can shut down a run game all day. Just re watch USC or OSU (justice hill)   This is first year In Awhile I think the horns have the upper hand... not to mention they still have stoopes  as defensive coordinator lol

So according to some pundits, Derrian Brown is the new RB target for Texas. I was thoroughly unimpressed with his video. Darwin Barlow seems like a better take at RB, IMO. Does anyone else agree, or am I missing something here?

Could not disagree more. Brown looks quick, fast, very decisive and super strong for his weight. Like crazy strong for 185 pounds, knocking people around.

I have watched his video twice now and I agree. He was far more impressive then Cain’s highlight reel. I haven’t watched Barlow’s but I’d be very satisfied with brown

Enlighten me. I by no means am an expert and would appreciate your input. My untrained eye just saw a lot of straight line speed with no quicks.

Someone made a comp to Jamaal Charles for Brown and I have no idea how they got there.

Barlow has multiple skills. He a good runner, mudder, good center of gravity so he doesn't go down easy, good vision. He also catches the ball very well out of the backfield. He can do a number of things very well.

Two other things I noticed is his hand placement for stiff arms and his ability to navigate wash or trash around his feet in the hole.

Barlow is also 3a. I'm not saying he isn't talented because he definitely is and has demonstrated some solid ability. I'm very familiar with him since he plays within my home coverage area back in southeast Texas. I'm just saying we should consider this in evaluating his performance vs another player, especially like Cain because of where he goes and who he plays. He is definitely talented and I know it wouldn't be the most popular take, but I wouldn't be mad with him and derrian brown.

See my edited response for my take. One thing also is that he split carries with two other big time recruits last season so he didn't get that many carries to come up with those highlights. Guessing there will be a lot more where those came from this fall. Haven't seen Barlow yet.
