2019 Recruiting Board/Thread

Demani Richardson commits to aggy.  Dream school curse strikes again.  Kid never even visited.

Regarding my post from another site about the state of recruiting.....

Read between the lines about this year's recruiting feeling weird and it feeling like Texas is swimming upstream. It's NOT about the newness of Jimbo and/or needing to win!

Again, read between the lines.

Some of these 2019 recruitments are strange.

Carter's dad his a huge Texas fan and Richardson grew up a Texas and hear we are both heading to aggy ( Carter likely ).

They are also going to get Green, Shepherd, Stripling, and Mowery.

Tom Herman and his staff earned the benefit of the doubt after this past cycle, but eventually they will have to find a way to combat the momentum A&M is generating on the trail.

Now Branson Bragg is getting a Texas pick changed to cloudy after his aggy visit today.

Honestly Daniel I believe the success of the  18 recruiting class put a major effect on the 19 class

Maybe I am naive, but I figured Texas wasn't going to be in it for the top safeties this year.  High rated kids want to play early.  Texas has S locked for the next 3 years.  ATM is wide open.  Do I want Brian Williams on the roster?  Hell yes.  If it was my son and he has potential to play in the NFL after 3 years then I would tell him to go to a school where he will see the field early and Texas isn't it.  I know we all want competition, but most people will choose the path of least resistance.  Texas needs to focus on top guys in the trenches and LB...with a couple gets at WR and RB.  They will be fine.

Aggy has the newness in their favor just like Herman did last year. I’m just trying to put my head in that of a 17 year old and trying to not be biased. If I was one of these kids I would want to see some progress. Jimbo still has the selling his vision of what he’s going to do factor and is making a hard sell on what he’s done in the past just like what Herman did last year. Herman also had the whole undefeated against ranked opponents thing going before he coached a game at UT and didn’t beat a single ranked opponent this past season if I’m not mistaken. It’s a generation of what have you done for me lately.
I don't think "newness" had anything to do with it. The flu has newness, too.

Herman had a track record of success and being hip with today's athlete. Houston did not want to part ways with him.

Fisher has a track record of inheriting a successful national program and producing 1 title and a bunch of average (in comparison with program standard). When he left his last job, they were throwing debris at him on the way out.

The best Herman could do is say "look at Houston. That's what I'll do here."

The best Fisher could do is say "look at FSU. That's what I'll do here."

Aside from one being more believable than the other, one of them was chased out the door if we'll remember.

The fact is – Herman has the advantage in a big way over Fisher. Take one look at what Herman has coming back. Then look at the schedule.

Now do the same with Fisher and aggy. Do you see what should be painfully obvious?

Herman has a chance to win a conference title. Fisher has a chance to get donkey stomped by Clemson, Bama and Auburn in a four-week span.

I understand about the mind of a 17 yr old thing. I struggle with the same. But there is obviously something wrong with the picture we're seeing.

Let me throw a "what if" scenario.

What if Jimbo is sputtering at .500 or has a losing record mid-October and Herman has this thing rolling at 6-1 or 7-0 at the BYE week, then what??  How many aggy commits jump ship to Texas?
None. I think there's something more in play here. I think aggy has finally decided to truly be a part of the SEC.

I would tell him to go to a school where he will see the field early and Texas isn't it.
You're always one play away from going from riches back to rags.

Very true, but try telling that to a 17 year old.  I'm not saying you stop re ruiting them and you take them if they want to compete.  However, the majority, not all, want the easier path.  Special kids want the competition and to earn it.  I have no idea what the mental makeup of a Brian Williams is, but if you have coaches telling you that you could start right away it's hard to say no.  Compare that to another in state program telling you that you can compete for time and I think you have the answer right there.

I know it sucks watching A&M have the recruiting momentum but I feel very good that though they may land some top notch players I believe Herman expected something like this to happen and already has a plan in place for it. Also to lookout for is how Herman is already making some 2020 prospects priorities and we just started the 2019 cycle. That will come into play in due to time with the 2020 prospects just watch. And if Texas can have a successful season (10 wins and above is what I consider successful season) watch how the momentum from 2019 will shift towards the Horns.

Lets see if Jimbo's "no visit" policy sticks with some of these guys.  I'm betting on no.  You think these guys are going to turn down an invite to the USC game?  Nope.
