Would a 3A linebacker have a chance playing Big12 football at Texas?
Talking about MVP Defensive player for Newton in their title game, Corbin Foster.
6' 220 lbs. He has speed, patience to keep the man in front of him, and is a sure tackler.

2018 graduate, has good grades (albeit not a highly touted academic school) and aims to be a doctor (details from my sister who still lives in Newton, is a retired teacher there and keeps tabs on players/families, and tid bits, so passed that on to me).
For the size school, Newton put a lot of good athletes on the field, and pretty sure Baylor will go after some (have already offered some) maybe Aggie. Newton's O-Line averaged 226 lbs. That's heavier than Royal's early 60s teams. As I recall. I watched the Newton-Gunter DVR replay several times. Newton barely broke a sweat and had Gunter struggling to even get up off the turf after each play by the 4th quarter. I doubt many of Newton's players have more body fat than UT players. I never saw a team fit a set of classy uniforms so well. They looked like clones of Dione Sanders. And some ran like it.
Believe they lose only 4 seniors, one off the O-Line. Will probably open as pre-season 3A II favorites to repeat. They pummeled a good Gunter team, after opening game jitters, adjusting to the noise and settling down the second half. I never saw a team as gassed and beat down as was Gunter the final 10 min of that game. With Newton looking like they just walked out on the field for the opening kickoff. That's a sign of conditioning, training and mental state of a winner.
Just don't know if they can handle academics of a major university and hold up to talent that's played 5A and 6A coaching and players. I do know from growing up there, timber and pulp wood is a big industry in Newton County. Kids grow up there more stout and hearty than a lot of city kids. If you get a chance to watch the 4th quarter of that game with Gunter... Newton defensive players were "laying the wood" and knocking the snot out of the Gunter players. Punishing blows to the body that took all the physical, mental and emotional wind out of them.
Newton could have probably played another game after that one and likely beat the 3A Div I winner for a take-all title. Okay, I'll calm down... it's 3 am.
