So question for @Sirhornsalot, @Daniel Seahorn, or @Harrison Wier

How do you guys feel with these guys.

(DL)

Ojomo

C Alexander

D Carson

Ossai

(LB)

Bonitto

White

Plus any others that I might have missed that Texas has offered or has interest in.

Aggy just gave up 55 points, come on White! Come play for Orlando!
Ojomo- A&M has the perceived momentum here, but I expect Texas to get a visit after the dead period.

Alexander- This was all Texas until Arkansas entered the picture. Apparently he loves the Razorbacks.

Carson- haven’t heard anything here in some time.

Ossai- A&M. Been looking for every reason imaginable to commit there. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gave them indication and is one of the kids trying to wait to announce in February.

Bonitto- If the rumors are to be believed, he’s heading north of the Red River.

White- Felt pretty good about a Texas flipping him at one point, but my optimism is trending downward. There’s a possibility he sticks with his word and goes to A&M.

Thanks, if those kids want to go play for that a&m D so be it. I still have a feeling Momma Hobbs will have the last word on the White recruitment.

Ojomo – I like our chances here. He had an initial high from the aggy attention, but doesn't even mention them when talking visits now.

C Alexander – Don't see it happening.

D Carson – Act of God required.

Ossai – Things have changed. We're back in it. Something's not right with aggy, at least in his current perception. We may get a visit.

(LB)

Bonitto – Chip casualty.

White – We're still in it. He's had every chance to be aggy and yet, he doesn't. After having 55 hung on them, he'll either laugh it off or have second thoughts. I mean, that was Wake Forest.

Would a 3A linebacker have a chance playing Big12 football at Texas?

Talking about MVP Defensive player for Newton in their title game, Corbin Foster.

6' 220 lbs. He has speed, patience to keep the man in front of him, and is a sure tackler. https://www.hudl.com/profile/6367802/corbin-foster

2018 graduate, has good grades (albeit not a highly touted academic school) and aims to be a doctor (details from my sister who still lives in Newton, is a retired teacher there and keeps tabs on players/families, and tid bits, so passed that on to me).

For the size school, Newton put a lot of good athletes on the field, and pretty sure Baylor will go after some (have already offered some) maybe Aggie. Newton's O-Line averaged 226 lbs. That's heavier than Royal's early 60s teams. As I recall. I watched the Newton-Gunter DVR replay several times. Newton barely broke a sweat and had Gunter struggling to even get up off the turf after each play by the 4th quarter. I doubt many of Newton's players have more body fat than UT players. I never saw a team fit a set of classy uniforms so well. They looked like clones of Dione Sanders. And some ran like it.

Believe they lose only 4 seniors, one off the O-Line. Will probably open as pre-season 3A II favorites to repeat. They pummeled a good Gunter team, after opening game jitters, adjusting to the noise and settling down the second half. I never saw a team as gassed and beat down as was Gunter the final 10 min of that game. With Newton looking like they just walked out on the field for the opening kickoff. That's a sign of conditioning, training and mental state of a winner.

Just don't know if they can handle academics of a major university and hold up to talent that's played 5A and 6A coaching and players. I do know from growing up there, timber and pulp wood is a big industry in Newton County. Kids grow up there more stout and hearty than a lot of city kids. If you get a chance to watch the 4th quarter of that game with Gunter... Newton defensive players were "laying the wood" and knocking the snot out of the Gunter players. Punishing blows to the body that took all the physical, mental and emotional wind out of them.

Newton could have probably played another game after that one and likely beat the 3A Div I winner for a take-all title. Okay, I'll calm down... it's 3 am.

Epictetus,

Don't know much about this particupar kid, but there have been plenty of 1A, 2A and 3A kids come through the program at Texas. Tyrone Swoopes was a 1A kid I believe.  It's doable just not sure this particular player is on their radar.

Anyone hearing anything about Mehringer? Read he has interviewed for the Houston OC job.

Also IT says they've heard nothing about Helfrich, but OB says there has been conversations between Helfrich and Herman.

Also, apparently Herman was the main playcaller in the bowl game. So I assume we are looking at a new OC. But who knows?

Well that doesn’t ease my mind any less because I felt our play calling was still ugly..... oh boy.

Me either.  However, maybe the Oline was just THAT bad that it wouldn't matter who was calling plays.  Maybe the execution was just bad and the QBs didn't read routes correctly.  Just trying to think positively.

Our OL is the big drag on this team.

Poor OL means we can't get easy yards rushing, are put in bad down and distance situations, and the defense can play the pass.  Combine that with the fact that Sam is hesitant in his reads, and not accurate deep, and really there is nothing that stresses the defense.  If there were plays that could overcome all of that, I'm sure any idiot could call them.

Back to 2018 recruiting...any unsigned kids at the UA game our guys can work on?

My 2 cents - It just stands to reason that an above average coach with above average skill talent can put together some kind of working or at least recognizable offense. And since nothing of the sort happened, our coach is likely a problem, if not the problem, and suspicious enough to need replacing. Otherwise we're gambling with the future of the program. But am privy to nothing behind the scenes nor professional analyst.

UT had far below average OL talent overall.

agreed. meant to give that - despite our OL talent.

To me we had enough experience and bodies on OL that with our skill players we should have made more noise. We never made any noise, though, nor looked like anything that could make any noise without trickery and so I say if we are letting Beck go, good, it's too much of a gamble to keep him. People argue continuity, but worse than breaking continuity is continuing with demonstrably substandard coaching. And to me I think that's what we got this year on O. But I'm no coach either.

Oregon boards are starting to report Helfrich to Texas as a real possibility
Would be a home run hire IMO. Just pure speculation, but if I were Herman I would let Beck keep on coaching the QBs and let Helfrich be the OC tasked with game planning, play calling + recruiting.

Regardless of who becomes the 10th assistant, I suspect we will know pretty soon. Change comes effective Jan 9, so I guess we will know by Jan 9
