2018 MLB Draft Thread

The 10th round is most likely the tipping point. The max bonus a player can receive if he is drafted after the 10th round is $100,000. If you are a high school player being drafted after the 10th round, you would be smart to go to college.
It’s no big change but I think post 10th max was raised to$125K this year.

Shocked Kingham hasn’t gone. I think the down year and the character issues from earlier in the year have sunk him. I wonder if he may come back to bounce up the draft board. I doubt it but a guy can dream!
IMO, there's a pretty good chance that both Kingham & Shugart will be drafted tomorrow and won't come back for their Senior seasons.

Interesting thing is, there's really not much leverage with MLB teams once a Junior comes back for their Senior season, unless they have some spectacular off-the-charts senior year.  Better for them to go where they're taken and move on to MiLB to get to work.

Texas has really made out well this draft if all holds to form.

Probably need them to leave or have some other attrition. The roster is way over for next season.

He's my daughter's cousin.  We're all pretty excited about him playing for the good guys.  He pitches in the state championship this weekend for Cy Ranch (vs Southlake).

Congrats and Good luck! However, I am pulling for the Dragons!!

Great “problem” to have, if you even want to call it a problem. Pierce and his staff will make the necessary adjustments when the time comes.

Holland could go either way. Don’t anticipate him signing there? But ya never know.

Braves got a steal. Baseball America had Kingham as the 100 overall prospect. Can’t believe he fell so far.

I will be interested to see if he is developed as a starter or a reliever at the next level. His fastball was up to 97-98 in a few relief appearances this season. Combine that with his slider and he could be a very good reliever down the road.

I see reliever.

Sawyer gets a shot in Chicago, and good for him.  He's battled a ton of stuff at UT.  Hope he works out for them.

Figure McGuire gets a look here late.  Possibly Henley?

Agree on all points! Kingham will probably start as a starter early in the minors but long term I think he’s a good big league reliever.

And Sawyer is a good story. Hopefully he can become a good Loogy.

The longer Henley goes without being picked the more likely he is pitching Friday nights next year.
