2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Burton thinks Herman will flip at least 3 current UH (up to 5)

And he thinks Bryson Smith will be one of them (although I dont know what offering him as a WR might mean)
He's one hell of an athlete and slot receiver fits his stature.

We've gotta get Coach Herman to dress cooler. Oscar is rockin' the coaches' "uniform".

Blue blazer and pleated slacks?
Maybe he should wear a turtleneck?

Cmon guys.  Stop drinking the Kool-aid.

Where exactly has Herman been the lights out recruiter everyone has said he is?  Because he bagged Ed Oliver last year at UH?

I highly doubt he had to try that hard to get that kid since his brother and former HS coach were at UH.

Strong sucked at coaching wins on the field but he always won in February.  Now we have to get used to an average February.  I am okay with that as long as he wins during football season.   He won with lesser talent at UH so I expect good things.  Charlie brought in the talent and Herman will coach that talent.  Once we are back to being a top 15 school the recruits will come.

Personally I would rather be excited about playing games than this bullshit WE GETTIN ERRRBODY only to choke it up on the field and LOSE TO KANSAS.

I'm with you DMAC....not much evidence so far that Herman is a great recruiter, but I will admit he is doing some things that ought to pay off down the road....playing to the HS coaches will do him no harm. If he does bring in Major he will get a proven good recruiter.

Yeah....much as I want to read great news, I suspect there will simply be no news for quite a while.

Thinking of making a CB pick change on Little anytime soon Daniel?

LOL. Let's take a look at Houston's recruiting classes before Herman and with Herman:

2013: 56th, 2nd in AAC, Players with a grade of 86 or higher in the 247 Composite: 1

2014: 76th, 5th in AAC, Players grade 86 or higher: 0

2015: 92nd, 7th in AAC, Players grade 86 or higher: 1

Tom Herman's first full class:

2016: 36th, 1st in AAC. Players with grade 86 or higher: 6

4 among the top 500 in the nation (Oliver, Dickson, Lark, and King)

A former 5 star QB (Kyle Allen)

A top 20 national JUCO player (Rodgers)

All other players were 3 stars

Tom Herman at Ohio State.

9 recruited players graded 90 or higher

4 of them from Texas, including J.T. Barrett. He started the Texas pipeline for Ohio State.

You beat me to it.

Folks, lets let this play out. Be very optimistic on how Herman ends this class.

I will let it play out but I still think he should land us a top 15 recruiting class this year.  You do not have to be winning when you are one of the top 5 premier programs in all of college football. He should be able to sale the University of Texas , the facilities, Austin and his vision of this program to most recruits and their families that we should be seeing these kids starting to jump on board.  Actually he should be able to land us a top 10 recruiting class but I am not seeing any of that at this time. There is no reason to say we have to wait until we start winning before we get better recruits hell that statement belongs with North Texas , and SMU but not The University of Texas!

I love this honeymoon phase.  The new coach becomes Jesus and can do no wrong.  Happens with every new coach.  So we must be on our way to a top 10 class his first signing?  LOL, I doubt it.  How many new coaches sign a top 10 class their first signing especially taking over with a couple months to go?  Name one.

I love how you Cherry Pick a few names.  Lets make this simple, shall we.  What was Cougar Highs class ranking last year coming off the FSU bowl win and a 13-1 season and a #7 ranking?  Wait for it......Wait for it......#41.  What was Herman's first class at UH #91.  Impressive for Cougar but still #41 is a disappointment in our realm.

Herman had some media buzz last year at UH takeover or whatever the hell it was #HTOWNTAKEOVER.  He also hired the coach of Oliver which helped secure Oliver. He was their MJ which helped on a few others.  Again #41 which is not bad for Cougar High, but he went 13-1 and beat FSU in a bowl game and had tons of media exposure....and he got #41.  Ummkay.

Barrett would have went to Texas if Mack hadnt been looking for the next VY in Swoopes.  Mack had his pick and he chose the wrong one.  Im sure the allure of Urban Meyer also helped land all those recruits at Ohio State it wasnt just by the hand of Herman.  Ohio State recruiting is doing just fine without Herman, always has.  They are currently #2 for 2017.  #4 for 2016...funny Herman wasnt there.

Name one TOP recruit, other than the once scorned Eno, that is chopping at the bits to be at Texas since Herman was hired?  Eno was all Texas but was left jaded by no offer from Strong.  Now surprise hes all Texas again.  Sam is going to be a longhorn regardless who is here.  Its understandable some UH recruits would be willing to follow Herman.  Poona followed Strong too.  I guess you could say Allen, the human ping pong ball...but fkn ag.

I am all for Hermans hire.  I was one of the first ones on this board calling for Strong to be fired.....LAST YEAR.  I am also a realist, all of you guys think hes gonna land top 10 class this year are insane.  Even the closer Charlie only had #20 ranking his first signing.  Hell if anything our standing with most top recruits dropped since his hire (Wilson, Browning, Hines...).  Why?  Uncertainty.  As expected.  Im excited to watch this team but some of you guys remind me of:
