2017 Recruiting Thread Part 1

Good luck to him, but rarely do 3-stars see much time at Bama. My feeling is he's going to watch a lot of football.

Hey guys long time reader , 1st time poster.  Love the info. and reporting by Mike and Daniel and all the other updates from guys on here.

I'm in the Tyler area and plan on seeing some of our recruits this year like Carson next month and Miller and maybe Browning ( Kennedale comes to Whitehouse ) so maybe I can offer an opinion on how these guys look in games.

Thank you for posting and reading! Definitely post your thoughts if you get to see those guys in person.

Gotta go back to Finley/Irby for us
Greg Davis used tight ends very efficiently. They were a big part of his offensive scheme and we had a run of great ones. The Art Briles offense has no need for a tight end. When they do have one line up,it is,in reality, another OT. They utalized the H back as a lineman in the backfield type blocker.

I'm very curious how Gilbert does / doesn't use the TE. He's an Art disciple but everyone adds their own flavor when they run the show. You also have to adapt to the players you have although I don't think that's a problem with the current Texas roster.

A TCU mod on 247 said that Taquan Graham was a no-show this weekend as they were expecting him to visit. The TCU mod pretty much said he is closing the book on Graham, definately looks good for us.
This is good news, Taquan Graham would be a very nice addition to the 2017 class

Haven't been worried about Graham in some time. Just have to let it take its course.

Newman's gone. I don't see that as necessarily being a bad thing, either.

If an athlete commits to a team with the hope of getting early playing time and all of a sudden the depth chart at that school changes, it makes a lot a sense for the athlete to look for other schools that can offer a better opportunity for early playing time. Unless something else is at play here, I think Newman's decommitment would be an expected reaction to picking up the two linemen from Baylor.

If Texas is no longer being seen as a program offering early playing time, that would be a positive, in that it indicates the development of some quality depth at important positions.

This is an important season upcoming. Obviously Charlie can build a depth chart. Newsome and Newman are telling us that (in my estimation). Can he deliver schematically on the field against good programs? That is what we need to see this year.

I have expressed I had no problem with the decommitment of Tennison. I also have no problem with the decommitment of Newman, but for different reasons.

What remains to be seen is the reaction of the attendees to UTL. Charlie probably has 13-15 slots still to fill this recruiting cycle. If that number is down to 10 by the OU game, then I would think things are going well.
